The Container Store celebrates Asian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month and honors the influence, legacy, and impact people of Asian and Pacific Island heritage have had on U.S. history. (A rather broad term, Asian and Pacific Islander includes all the Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia.)
Celebrated annually each May, Asian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month commemorates the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and marks the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. What began as a 10-day celebration in the United States has evolved into the month-long observance in the United States and Canada.
Throughout the month of May, The Container Store (spearheaded by our Mosaic Employee Resource Group) will be hosting a series of events and experiences that celebrate the culture and contributions Asian & Pacific Islander Americans have made and continue to make in our country.
Companywide
On Wednesday, May 10, 2023 the Mosaic Employee Resource Group is hosting Advancing Leaders Through Opportunity, a candid discussion about the importance of increasing visibility, amplifying voices and investing in the future of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans, particularly in underrepresented spaces. The esteemed panelists include Kalyan Chintam (VP of Digital Technology) and Husin Chandra (VP of Enterprise Architecture) and will be moderated by Kimberly Calleros (Custom Spaces Market Manager). The event will stream live and be recorded so our teams across the country can watch, learn, and engage.
In the Community
As part of our commitment to give back to causes that are important to our employees and customers, as well as align with our commitment to making a lasting social and economic impact, we're continuing our support of the The Kaleidoscope Project, a Designer Showhouse venture that showcases BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) talent within the creative design industry. They do this by partnering with organizations to offer financial and experiential support to BIPOC students through internships, certifications, industry career days, design projects and sponsored trips to industry trade shows. During High Point Market this October, they will reveal the newly-renovated Aiden Hotel which will include spaces designed exclusively by 20 BIPOC designers.
As a platinum sponsor of the Aiden Hotel Project, The Container Store will support the renovation of the Aiden Hotel (formerly the Red Lion Hotel) in High Point, North Carolina. The closet spaces in each room will be finished in a variety of custom space options from The Container Store, with varying finishes and hardware according to the designers' preferences.
