Supply chain work isn't easy, so below we've highlighted a couple of the dedicated individuals that work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure our customers receive the products they need on time.
Eddie Hurley: A Passion for Service
Distribution Coordinator Eddie Hurley has been with The Container Store for nearly five years. He has worn many hats during his time with us, from a Direct-to-Customer Floor Associate to a member of the Training and HR teams, but he recently returned to the operational side, drawn back by the incredible camaraderie and leadership opportunities he finds so rewarding.
Eddie's dedication shines through in his focus on customer satisfaction. "As a Distribution Coordinator leading our Direct-to-Customer department, I focus on upholding our core values, especially 'The Best Selection, Quality and Service,'" he explains. "My daily mission is to ensure customers receive the products they ordered, delivered on time and in pristine condition. I also encourage my peers to maintain these high standards and foster a safe, encouraging environment for them to excel."
Eddie cites The Container Store's culture as a key factor in our success. "It encourages our associates to express ideas, take pride in their work, and be leaders in achieving their goals," he says. "This environment allows me to be the best version of myself professionally. I can voice concerns about processes and propose solutions. It instills a sense of ownership and ambition to continually improve and deliver exceptional service to our customers."
"We are the front line of The Container Store brand," Eddie says with pride, explaining how logistics plays a crucial role in getting products to our customers. "When you receive a product or visit our stores, do you ever consider the journey it took to get there? Our journey starts in the warehouse, where products arrive from vendors. Our team meticulously inspects trailers and products to ensure quality control. Then, our Replenishment team works with planners to strategically store products for order picking. The Inventory Control department maintains accurate product counts and addresses any quality or quantity issues. Finally, when you place your order, planners initiate the picking and packing process. The world of logistics is vital for delivering the products we rely on, ensuring a secure and timely arrival."
Deon Hightower: Leading Through Challenge
Deon Hightower, our Distribution Operations Manager, has been with The Container Store for an impressive seven years, and he thrives on the energetic, ever-changing nature of logistics. "My favorite part about logistics is the dynamic environment and the constant challenge of optimizing processes," he says. "Every day brings new opportunities to improve efficiency, solve problems, and ensure that our customers receive their orders accurately and on time. I enjoy collaborating with a dedicated team and leveraging innovative solutions to enhance our operations, ultimately contributing to the overall success of the company."
Recently, Deon's team leadership skills were put to the test with a series of significant challenges. "When we faced a staff shortage caused by simultaneous power outages and flooding, it impacted our ability to maintain normal service levels," he explains. "To address these issues, we mobilized our remaining team members, who demonstrated exceptional dedication. Together, we prioritized critical tasks and optimized workflows to ensure essential operations continued without major disruptions. We also implemented contingency plans, such as cross-training and temporary staffing solutions, to fill critical roles affected by the staffing shortage. By proactively managing these adverse conditions and leveraging the great teamwork of our remaining staff, we effectively minimized disruptions and upheld our commitment to delivering reliable service."
Like Eddie, Deon says The Container Store's dedication to culture is central to his approach.
