Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates the event on June 19, 1865 in which the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom--over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Since then, many people have celebrated on June 19 to remember the resilience, hope, and the enduring spirit of freedom of those that came before them.
In honor of Juneteenth, The Container Store recognizes the contributions and achievements of African American communities, whose rich culture and history continue to shape and inspire us. We are committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive environment where every voice is heard and valued.
Join us in celebrating Juneteenth by learning more about its history, supporting Black-owned businesses, and reflecting on ways we can all contribute to a more just and equitable society. Here are some educational resources to explore:
Let us honor the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to a brighter future together.
Happy Juneteenth from all of us at The Container Store!
