Toddlers and aspiring builders. They both love LEGOs, but the ways they play with them are different. So why not create a storage system that's different too?

Understanding how your kids play with LEGOs will help you decide on the best way to store them. And never fear, it is easy to have different toy storage solutions for different kids all in the same playroom.

Toddlers or younger children just want to stack and build. They don't care so much about the color or size of brick. And they are likely to dump all the bricks out at once when playing with them. So storage should be easy to access. Consider open bins stored on a low shelf or under a bed. A scoop or small dustpan makes cleanup simple.

Once your kids get a bit older, they are far more interested in building specific structures. Sorting becomes more important. Stacking drawers or our Elfa Drawer Units make it easy to organize by color or brick size. Drawers can also be removed and carried to the play area. Fun containers like our LEGO Storage Heads not only hold quite a bit, they also can become part of the action.

And once your kids really get into LEGOs, you'll need both storage and display space. Using a desktop file cabinet like our Bisley 5-Drawer Cabinet is a great way to keep small, specialized pieces handy.

Elfa shelving above a work area can work as both storage and display space for finished masterpieces.
