Happy Diwali from The Container Store!

Diwali (or Deepavali) is a festival of lights celebrating the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. During this five-day celebration, families, friends and loved ones come together by sharing food, visiting temples, enjoying fireworks and lighting clay diyas (lanterns). While the origin of Diwali is anchored in Hindu beliefs primarily celebrated in India, the festivities and principles are now commemorated around the world. The exact dates change each year based on the Hindu lunar calendar, and this year Diwali takes place October 22nd - 26th, with October 24th being the major celebration.

Here's how we'll be participating in the celebration...

In Our Stores

Our customers will find signage throughout our stores and at the registers detailing how we're commemorating Diwali this year and how they can be involved.

To inspire engagement and excitement amongst our specialists, our Mosaic Employee Resource Group has put together Diwali Celebration Kits that include a poster, traditional clay diyas and electric tea lights, and an acrylic rangoli replication table decoration. When lit, the diyas represent prosperity, knowledge, and wisdom. The rangoli, which is typically composed of colorful sand or flowers, is welcomed into homes in hopes of wealth and good luck. We will also be emphasizing the importance of acts of service during this five-day time period.

In Our Communities

As part of our commitment to give back to causes that are both important to our employees and customers and that align with our commitment to making a lasting social and economic impact, we invite everyone to make a contribution to Vibha, a volunteer-driven social catalyst that seeds, grows and scales solutions to systemic problems affecting children. Through fundraising events, campaigns, and backing from patrons, Vibha supports projects in India and the USA that bring sustainable transformation to the lives of children living in adverse conditions. Your support for Vibha will help to ensure that every underprivileged child can attain their right to education, health & opportunity.

(Our giving campaign for Vibha will run October 15th - October 30th. To support this effort, click here.)

Happy Diwali! May the colors of rangoli usher in happiness and your life be as bright as the lamps of Diwali!
