For many Asian Americans, the month of May holds a very special significance. It was on May 7, 1843 that the first very Japanese immigrants arrived in the United States. Years later, on May 10, 1869, North America's first transcontinental railroad--much of which was built by Chinese immigrants--was finally completed. To honor the influence, legacy, and impact people of Asian and Pacific Island heritage, the month of May has been designated as Asian American and Pacific Islander* Heritage Month, and The Container Store is proud to take part in this special annual celebration.
In observance of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, our MOSAIC Employee Resource Group will be hosting a series of events that celebrate the cultural richness and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders throughout US history. Our plans include:
- In-store signage: All of our store locations will have signage displayed on the doors and at the register that will allow our customers to join the celebration and learn about how The Container Store is commemorating Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
- A companywide keynote event: This May we are hosting an online event for our employees entitled "A Candid Conversation on Culture, Courage and Leadership" with The Container Store's CEO, Satish Malhotra, and CIO, Dhriti Saha. Facilitated by Nisha Raj, Director of Finance and member of the DE&I Advisory Council, this powerful hour is sure to inspire, engage and enlighten.
- Sponsorship of ACCESS 2022: As part of our commitment to give back to causes that are important to our employees and customers that align with our commitment to making a lasting social and economic impact, The Container Store is proud to sponsor ACCESS 2022, the largest and most diverse business expo in the Southwest. ACCESS is a signature event hosted by the Dallas/Fort Worth Minority Supplier Development Council (DFW MSDC) and includes industry focused roundtable sessions, exhibitor booths, and one-on-one business matchmaking opportunities.
For more than 47 years, the DFW MSDC has been the gold standard in the certification of Asian, Black, Hispanic, and Native American business enterprises in North Texas. They work diligently to ensure its members have access to minority-owned business enterprises (MBEs) that can impact their supply chain while also impacting the communities in which we live and work.
We invite you to join us in celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and honoring the legacy of these extraordinary cultures!
* A rather broad term, "Asian and Pacific Islander" includes the entire Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia.
