This February, The Container Store is celebrating Black History Month and the impact and achievements of African Americans in U.S. history. We invite our customers to participate in the month-long celebration in our stores, online, and in the community.
Online
On February 3, The Container Store's Mosaic Employee Resource Group--our employee-led group that promotes cultural education and celebrates the heritage, customs, and traditions of people who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color--is hosting A Conversation with Cynt Marshall, CEO of the Dallas Mavericks and the first Black female CEO in the history of the National Basketball Association. During this powerful hour, Desiree Flores, our Business Solutions & Trade Programs Coordinator and Chair of Mosaic, will facilitate an enlightening and inspiring discussion on allyship, equity and inclusion.
In addition, we will also highlight several of our Black-owned business vendors throughout the month on our Container Stories blog and through our marketing efforts.
In the Community
As part of our commitment to give back to causes that are important to our employees and customers, and that align with our commitment to making a lasting social and economic impact, we're also proud to announce the launch of a giving campaign benefiting the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). Founded in 1944, UNCF was established to support Black students to attend and graduate from college. To date, more than $5 billion dollars has been contributed to UNCF with 500,000+ students earning college degrees as a result. (Our giving campaign will run through February 10th, and The Container Store will match donations made by our employees and customers up to $15,000.)
We recently partnered with Paul Quinn College, the oldest historically Black college west of the Mississippi River and the nation's first urban work college. We worked with the college to identify its needs and install an organization system that will support its expansion and campus improvement efforts and we can't wait to reveal the first design transformation later this month. (Click here to see the big reveal!)
In-Store
Customers will find signage throughout our stores and at the registers detailing how we're commemorating Black History Month this year and how they can be involved. Customers will also be able to support of the UNCF campaign by making a donation here.
Please join us in celebrating Black History Month and honoring the culture, contribution and legacy African Americans have and continue to make in our country!
