As anyone who's ever played with LEGO can attest, it's an incredibly fun toy system that allows for near-limitless creativity. However, due to its modular nature and huge variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, it can also be a bit of storage challenge. But because we love LEGO almost as much as kids do, we offer a variety of storage solutions to help keep those bricks organized and off the floor.
Our friend, organization expert Jessica Litman (AKA The Organized Mama), recently tried out several different LEGO storage options in her own space and was happy to share her thoughts and tips. Check out the video and tips below!
Jessica's Tips (with links to that portion of the video):
- Only color-code the LEGO if your kids will stick with it.
- Designate one drawer or bin as a "sorting bin." This will be used to hold LEGO that will need to be sorted by color or function later.
- The LEGO Storage Heads are great for mini-figures and accessories.
- The Home Edit by iDesign's Divided Fridge Drawers are great for smaller collections, and their clear construction makes sorting by color very easy. (You can use the heat from a hairdryer to help loosen the adhesive on a sticker or label, making them much easier to peel off.)
- The Elfa Start-A-Stack Drawers are an easy and efficient LEGO storage system. Kids can easily place LEGO bricks into the drawers through the opening in the handles, and the larger drawers can be used to store completed LEGO creations when shelf space is not available.
