The company began its life as "Canworks," founded in 2000 by CEO Frank Yang. But as time went on, Yang realized that "Canworks" didn't quite encompass everything they were doing, so he changed the name of the company to "simplehuman," a terrific compound word evoking the sleek simplicity, practical functionality, and warm humanity at the core of their mission.
One not-quite-a-secret to simplehuman's success is their devotion to product testing and development. For example, their step trash cans are engineered to withstand over 150,000 steps, which ensures an end product that is built to last.
