Vogue's Anna Wintour once said, "You either know fashion or you don't."
For the fourth straight year, Brian Morrison, our Senior Visual Merchandising Director, served as our spirited emcee. This year he donned a festive elf ensemble created by our visual merchandising team.
Each year at The Container Store headquarters holiday party, we have a highly anticipated fashion show featuring frocks designed by our talented employees and all made from gift wrap and trimmings from our Gift Wrap Wonderland. These folks know fashion.
This year, 18 garments made from our exclusive, signature gift wrap collection walked the runway and wowed the crowd. Designers had to use products from our Gift Wrap Wonderland and couldn't attach the gift wrap to an existing garment. They were allowed to embellish with items like fabric and tulle and fasteners like tape, glue and Velcro.
Take a look at these stunners that dazzled and delighted as they strutted down our holiday catwalk.
We opened the show with a wedding dress. Here, long time Gift Wrap Wonderland Fashion Show veteran - Jose Hernandez from our Fulfillment department created his stunning wedding dress using our uptown Christmas in the City signature gift wrap. The dress is modeled by the lovely LaTisha Collins. The dress is semi-full, floor length and embellished with ruffles made from white tulle with silver dots. The ruffles have some extra sparkle from our red and green stretchy ribbon.
Cousins Emma Haley and Aria Rose, three-year-old daughters of Lauren Rose-Haley and Desi Rose both from our Customer Solutions department, served up some major sass and cuteness! Both girls love to dance, so Desi and Lauren just knew ballet-inspired tutus would be perfect for this year's show! Each tutu is made of several feet of shredded ribbon, tissue paper and strips of our Santa Hats & Snowflakes wrapping paper. The wrap also comprises the halter-style tops with blue ribbon for the straps. The costumes are embellished with gorgeous bows, each consisting of 3 feet of red stretchy ribbon with feathers and a star gift tag - the perfect accent!
We traveled back in time to ancient Egypt with Abe Berkhadley's ensemble featuring our proprietary Cool Stripe gift wrap for a very cool dude! Abe works in our Special Processing department and was inspired by the uniforms worn by guards for King Tut, the ancient Egyptian ruler. Abe crafted the front of his uniform from the Cool Stripe wrap and accented the back with Brushed Red from our Signature Collection. The uniform and this guard's sword are artfully embellished with our ornaments!
Bring on the precious! Sonya Felix-Hamilton and Marie Gary, both from Fulfillment, designed this original creation. Our handsome model, Gerriyan Thompson Gary, is a veteran of our Gift Wrap Wonderland Fashion Show and is Marie's grandson! Gerriyan's sporty "moose" robe is trimmed in brown burlap wired ribbon to give it a rustic chocolate-y touch. We know that accessories make the outfit, and this one is no exception with a whimsical Murray Moose graphic and sleeping hat and a scarf of red tulle.
Annette Moriarty from our Store Replenishment department is no stranger to our show as she has participated every year since its inception. Annette's creation is modeled by Jessica Littlejohn, 8-year-old granddaughter of Georgia Littlejohn in Fulfillment. Annette is a huge Audrey Hepburn fan and finds her inspiration in Audrey's classic style. She crafted this adorable Amaryllis dress from our Home for the Holidays signature gift wrap with a fabric backing. The wrap-style design has a button loop closure, back circle skirt, front gathered skirt and a sash. The seams are trimmed in red satin ribbon and the front has two panels of white tulle ribbon with gold dots over red fabric. Visible through the tulle are whimsical figures cut from the gift wrap. The matching cape repeats the design features of the skirt panels, tying the look together beautifully. Annette's experience shows through in this ensemble that used no tape or glue. It was sewn with both a machine sewing and hand sewn with needle and thread. It took Annette several hours each day since the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Stephanie Ellis from our Special Processing department returns to our show this year, along with veteran Gift Wrap Wonderland Fashion Show model, Eden Rene McAbee, her daughter! Stephanie created her sweet Christmas Angel design using our Let It Snow gift wrap for the bodice. White tissue paper made the perfect ethereal skirt, and beautiful wings created with our Boa Ribbon finished off this heavenly creation.
The lovely Bianca Aizabelle Hernandez, daughter of designer Betty Hernandez from Store Facilities be-bopped down the runway in this retro inspired design. The darling A-line swing dress was made from our Snowy Dots gift wrap. It simply exudes vintage charm with the red and white pattern that is reminiscent of 1950's style, and was the inspiration for Betty's design this year. The dress features a subtle open tailored back in a darling notch and includes meticulous details, embellished with burlap and woven ribbon. The skirt boasts an under layer of crinoline tulle added for volume.
Deidra Williams from our Fulfillment department modeled her own creation inspired by the early 1960's style of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and was crafted from our fun Here Comes Santa signature gift wrap! The knee-length fishtail pencil dress with sassy ruffle belt is retro classic at its finest! Deidra chose to accessorize with an avant-garde hat featuring a burlap bow and antlers - with a matching handbag!
We remained on a retro roll, staying in the 1960's for our next design, inspired by those Boys from Liverpool - the Beatles! This Sergeant Pepper-esque jacket was designed by Michele Crow from our Buying department and Logan Karwoski from Special Processing. It is modeled by Logan who is channeling his inner George Harrison - I mean with that hair and mustache, he nails it! Michele and Logan used our Evergreen Gatherings proprietary wrap to create the look that is accented in red and silver ribbon to pull all of the details together. Even the silver buttons are crafted from ribbon!
Melissa Collins, our VP of Creative and Online, along with Randi Means, Dona Mitcham and Al Schmidt from our in-house Creative department crafted a dress that was made for Christmas in the City!
Brandy Rinehart, our Online Merchandising Director, steps out in style!
Brandy's gorgeous party dress was made from our Brushed Red Gift Wrap. This drop-waist dress features a decorative neckline in contrasting slate ribbon and flattering princess seams with a fit and flair skirt.
Who says athletic wear has to be boring? This jogging ensemble from designer, model and Fulfillment department employee, Maggie Sauls, is anything but boring with style to spare! Maggie's design started with our festive Holiday Travels gift wrap, upped the style factor with red and silver ribbon and then topped it off with a darling ornament necklace!
Alexia De La Rosa from our Fulfillment department designed this sassy skirt crafted from our Christmas Plaid signature gift wrap. She topped off the look with a festive gold headpiece fashioned out of fabulous ribbon from our Gift Wrap Wonderland.
Every bride deserves the royal treatment, and members of our Accounting department - Janice Powers, Sandy Tanner, Karla McDowell, Gidgett Mills, Karen Carrel, Melissa de Freitas, Diana Cowden, Mona Quiroga, Amber Moller and Judy Watson - made sure the final look of the show would bring down the house! Lead designer, Janice Powers, said "this was a true accounting team effort with everyone getting involved to make flowers for this beautiful dress, veil and train."
We closed our show the way we began it - with a wedding dress! Our model is bride-to-be Jewel Thomson - also from Accounting - who is getting married on September 17, 2016! Jewel's engagement was the team's inspiration for choosing to create a winter wedding gown from our classically beautiful Winter Flurries signature gift wrap. This stunning dress is embellished with ribbons, tulle and handmade paper flowers.
