My name is Britni Vigil, the founder of Play Party Plan, the blog dedicated to everything you need to make life more fun!
I absolutely love the holidays, and I was so excited when The Container Store partnered with me to create some DIY holiday magic for your next party. After a little brainstorming and a ton of Container Store products, I came up with a DIY idea for a holiday trifle bar that can entertain friends, family, kids and more.
Check out the how-to and which products I used to make the party happen, below.
The Station & The Spread
First and foremost, a great DIY sweets bar is only as good as its sweets! You'll want to give your guests a wide range of cookies, brownies, toppings and sauces to choose from. "Easy" is the name of the game when creating a DIY aspect to a holiday party - for both the guests and for you! I chose to buy store-bought everything to save time, but if you have a favorite recipe, and don't mind baking, that works even better.
You'll also want to create a designated area in your home where they can put their treat together. You don't want to spread the items out to where they can't take a good assessment of what items they want to layer. I used a leaning bookshelf to display everything and make a cute presentation all in one.
The Set Up
To set up the area, I started with grouping the main ingredients for the trifles together. I filled The Container Store's Baking Cups with various brownies, breads and cakes which made them easy to grab.
I also filled some of my glass containers with different layering options like cream cheese, frosting, pudding and whip cream. Having these paired together makes it easy for the guests to start their layering and then move to top off their treat at the next station.
Labeling is a necessity for this DIY, but that doesn't mean you can't make it look great it in the process. I used The Container Store's Bordered Gift Labels to label everything on both tables. This makes it much easier for anyone walking up to immediately know what they do and don't want to use.
Top It Off
I put together a toppings station on the other table so guests could move to finish their treats there. The spread looks like a lot of work, but I promise it's really just a matter of a few labels and bowls filled with treats.
To create the spread, I chopped up several toppings to make it super easy for people to sprinkle them over their trifle. Labels kept everything neat and organized and I separated the "dry" toppings from the "wet" toppings to make choices easy. Purees and syrups were stacked on top of these cute Deer Tins and stored in squeeze bottles to keep the area from getting messy.
If you want to add a special touch to the classic Mason jar they'll be creating their trifle in, think about adding a few embellishments. I used The Container Store's Le Parfait Glass Jam Jars and embellished them with their Merry Christmas Cross-Stitch Ribbon to add a festive look.
One Sweet Treat
Once they've finished layering and topping, all there is left to do is enjoy! I love how differently each trifle can look with all the toppings and layering options.
You can even make a the silverware a festive treat with a few quick tricks. I used a Vivid Wrap White & Gold Recycled Box to house my silverware and wrapped each fork in the Black & White Stripes Luncheon Napkins. It's a small trick to add a little something extra to the party.
A Festive Display
If your celebration has a gift aspect to it, think about adding some of these easy DIY ideas to it.
I added some quick garland around the bookshelf and adorned each side with a Mink Stocking Deer Tie On. I love the black and gold design of the stocking, I think it adds a bit of a new year feel to it as well.
The Container Store's Gift Wrap Wonderland had absolutely everything I needed to wrap, decorate and personalize every gift for everyone this year. If you're looking for a way to make your gifts pop this year, look no further.
A few of my favorite wraps that I used were the Pepperminty Prismatic Gift Wrap, Black & White Wide Stripes Gift Wrap, Let it Snow & Dots Reversible Gift Wrap and the Peace, Love & Joy Gift Wrap.
I decorated most of my packages with a wide variety of their Satin Ribbons and Bows since I really think they give a lot of excitement to the package and add some great color.
I really loved this package in particular for all the details within it. I started with the Striped Trees Gift Wrap which I think is so beautiful and subtle, and then added a Black & Gold Grosgrain Ribbon and a Black Satin Bow to top it all off.
And there you have it! A beautiful and tasty holiday party idea that is absolutely doable. Thanks for letting me show you how, and let me know if you have any questions in the comments below!
