DisappointingI have had other, less expensive kitchen trash cans and have always been disappointed. So I decided to splurge and get these trash cans everyone always talks about. Well, less than a year into owning this model, it has completely fallen apart. The lid will not open all the way even when the pedal is pressed down. Also the rim which used to lock in place to get the liner out, will not stay up unless held up, making it very challenging to get a full garbage bag out without the assistance of another pair of hands. At least the other trash cans I had prior lasted about five years. I can’t in good conscience recommend this trash can because the experience I have had with it has been subpar.

GREAT customer service!Like another reviewer here, this garbage can was given to me free as a replacement of a similar (cheaper!) model that had a faulty lid. It looks great and functions well so far - hope it lasts, but I'm extremely happy with Container Store's customer service - they really stand behind their stuff. I'm a very satisfied customer!

Classy and FunctionalOur recent classroom décor upgrade included the simplehuman 12 gal. can because it looks classy and functions perfectly. Our teenage students like the quiet pedal-operated lid as it lifts quickly and closes quietly. The reflective stainless steel is beautiful and tough, with a sturdy liner rim that lifts to free both hands for bag changing. There is nothing flimsy about this trash can, and it deserves its place in our attractive classroom.

Great trash can and great customer serviceThis can was provided free by the store without me having to launch a hissy about it. They selected it.
My old can was poorly designed and the lid broke off one day. Operation and looks of this can are similar but much better designed and includes a 10 year warranty. Very happy with it. Great job container store!
Like to use this as laundry hamper. Is there any hook or similar pc. at bottom of the can that controls the open function that might catch clothes?

Are there feet to help the trash bin from sliding around on wood floor?
There are 4 plastic holes on bottom of trash bin. They seem to be positioned to have rubber feet inserted but there was nothing in the box.

Does the lid lift all the way up to get the full trash bags out? When I looked at in the store it seemed as though the lid would be in the way.

not the lid, the lid and the offset ring that the lid is connected to lift up 90 degrees and stay up exposing the bag top that you drape over the can, much prefer this system than the old removable plastic pull out liner.
