How tall is the trash can when the lid is open?

Hello soapy123, When the lid is completely open, the 45 litre plastic rectangular step can with liner pocket is 34.8" tall. Warm regards, simplehuman

Can the lid lock open? A review says it can but I just received this and can't figure out how to do it.

Yes it can! One lid moves with the step pedal and there's a secondary lid to change the trash bags that will stay open.

Can you use regular garbage bags in this can or must you buy the Simplehuman brand?

You can easily use other brands, just won't be able to put them in the compartment in the back. The lid secures over the bag, so you don't have to worry if the non-Simplehuman bags are slightly bigger either!

Can you use regular bags in the liner or just these?

Any standard 10 gallon plastic garbage bag can be used in our simplehuman 12 gal. Rectangular Can with Liner Pocket, however, the in-can dispenser may not function with bags that are not simplehuman brand.
