Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I splurged on this bookshelf as a "treat yourself" gift and have no regrets. It's been one year and it's functionality and convenience for transporting is amazing. Moving with this bookshelf is very low maintenance because it is foldable. Thank you container store!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great purchase I really like this bookcase. The best part for me, is that there was no assembly. I simply unfolded it! It is a solid bookcase and it stands very level, too. I am very happy with this purchase!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from almost but not quite After reading reviews here, and especially after seeing photos of situations similar to mine, I ordered 4 units for an office, a bit of a risk but I hadn't found viable alternatives. I needed help carrying them up stairs, but was able to arrange them alone. A few of the leveling feet were difficult to adjust but I got 3 units lined up wrt each other in an hour or so. Not simple in a wobbly old house; I eventually conceded defeat on the purity of level and plumb for all horizontal and vertical lines simultaneously, and eyeballed it. Aesthetically, the overall effect is quite nice. BUT. One of the legs is slightly bent, not glaring but an irritation and immediately raising questions about quality. One of the shelves has bars (the two that run back to front) at different intervals than the other shelves. Well, in an old house nothing else is perfect either. Here’s my major concern though: When the Q&A claims that each shelf holds 60 lbs, I expect this to mean 60 lbs without sagging. But with books on the shelves, mostly unexceptional paperbacks, there is a noticeable sag (about 1/8” at the center below a string stretched straight across). I can live with it for now, but I wonder whether it will increase over time, and it makes me extremely hesitant to order more. In essence, I’d prefer a higher quality version of the same thing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal shelving I had the iron-shelf tower. This new 6-shelf folding bookcase works wonderfully for more than books. It is remarkably sturdy; there is no assembly; and you know the shelf is dependable. Ideal!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Bookcase Very versatile, good looking bookcase. Holds a variety of things and part of a nice collection. Just have to be careful you put primarily things with solid, somewhat wide bases on it so they/their legs don't fall between the railings which form the shelves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For Great Display Shelving, You Can't Do Better I now have FOUR of these wonderful shelving units; use 'em for displaying my collectibles. Simply put, these units ENHANCE whatever goes on them...and, in my experience, that is rare! Putting them up is so easy - no tools, screws, nails, magnets - and you can easily add solid flat bases (I use heavy white plastic) to cover the rectangular "vents" on any shelf, which serves multiple purposes for my needs, and beautifies further an already stunning shelving unit. Would get more if my display room were larger!!! Buy one, or will love them!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong. Sturdy. Good value. We purchased three of these shelves after seeing them in a brick and mortar Container Store in northern California. They are all great: Simple yet attractive, sturdy (even the six-shelf ones) and a great value. I like the clean design: The natural wrought iron color and the straight lines. They also hold a ton, but also look great with empty spaces. I wish a Container Store would open in Michigan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bathroom Tight Space Storage Solution I measured this spot exponential 99. Ran into NYC 6th Ave store. Representative measured, held and I ran home and measured again. Barter for a pickup since it could not fit into my car. My friend could not believe the exactness and perfect fit. BTW, he's a Math Teacher. Ran around the house. Used ice buckets to hold towels, trays to hold essentials, and boxes to corral small items.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best design/strength for the money Looked at shelving for a LOOOONG time for a mid-century house. Wanted to splurge on the Dieter Rams Vitsoe shelving system but at $6k plus, forget about it. Not only are these shelves beautifully made, but strong enough for massive design/art/photography and smaller literature libraries. They may bow a tiny, tiny bit with huge books jammed on them but what do you want for the price? The design is also a huge factor. Simple, modern, and sophisticated. Easy to move as well. The books are the focus, not the frame of the shelves. Securing them to a wall is a great idea for stability depending on the weight of books. But they aren't that wobbly, contrary to the nay-sayers. I do wish they made a taller version. But for a portable, good-looking bookshelf this is it hands-down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, strong, good-looking shelving This is my third shelf. I chose open stock so I could add shelves as I could afford them. It looked like the color had been changed but when it arrived it was the same as before. They come fully assembled, folded flat, so you can just open the box, cut the bubble wrap off, stand them up and load them with books. No brainer. Strong enough to hold heaviest books -- iron after all. Well designed to get the job done. When I need more shelves I'll be back, and not just because they match.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This book shelf is great I love this book shelf! It is SO easy to assemble... aka, there is no assembly. You just have to get it out of the box and unfold it and VOILA! The wrought iron looks fine in my living room. I think the trade off that you don't have to use screws and nails to set up a wooden bookshelf is worth it, even if you aren't thrilled with the iron material. I have so much stuff on my shelf that you can barely tell what the shelf is made out of anyways. I would definitely buy this shelf again once I have more room!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fantastic shelving I ordered two of the metal folding shelves for my home office and as my husband was carrying them into the house, he decided they would be perfect for our reading area so they never made it to my office. I asked him if this meant I needed to order two more if I wanted them in my office and he said he thought so. I have ordered two more. We have to travel over 150 miles to pick them up, but they are worth it. I sent the link to my daughter who lives in NYC in case she needed any shelves. No assembly is required which is a huge plus and they are very sturdy and attractive. What is not to like!.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cannot imagine living without them I have four of them in my bedroom. Three, in a row alongside the wall that separates the bedroom from the master bathroom, are filled with books. The fourth one stands alongside the wall between the window and the bed. It houses a couple of decor items, some also from the container store, a soap dish (from the container store) in which I burn lavender incense when I go to bed, and a few other lightweight items. The look is as timeless as it is airy. If I had to select a top 10 container store products, this would be in for sure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Home office DIY...I did that!! Too much HGTV makes me think I can be like Candace or Sabrina Soto. Well this time I was...saw a designer catalog storage tower.. costs $400 for each one. Wood planks on each shelf stained and shined to perfection. So I got two of these towers at Container Store, had my wood planks cut to size. I ain't afraid of a some elbow grease, so I even buffed and stained the wood too. Voila!! My shelving unit looks just like the designer brand...only I spent $250-260...FOR BOTH!!! Yeah, I did that....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tall & Terrific Tower This bookcase holds dozens of heavy textbooks attractively. It fits into small spaces. It also levels well, which is another plus for an uneven floor. It is fairly easy to assemble; the box is quite long and heavy which makes opening it up and manoeuvering in a small area difficult. I'm 5'10" (177 cm); a shorter person might need help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, sturdy shelving I bought this shelving unit for our new nursery as I wanted to get something that we could use for a long time. I read great reviews about it from others trying to utilize smaller living spaces. It was very easy to set up and looks great in our space! I couldn't be happier with the purchase. When we eventually move to a house, I plan to get more of these as they would look great side-by-side.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these bookcases I ordered 5 of these bookcases a couple years ago, and after my last move ordered more. Now I have 10 of them in a 2 bedroom apartment. They are easy to fold up and move. Plus, they are sturdy enough to hold heavy books and open enough that they don't make my space feel crowded.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong like an ox Easy to set up, self-leveling feet (no more shims!), holds all my knitting books, attractive. Replaced big wooden bookcase that the shelves kept giving way on. (Anyone else remember the library scene from "The Mummy"?) And affordable. Such a deal!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent, Sturdy storage solution I am living in temporary housing, awaiting construction of a new home. Most all of my belongings are in long-term storage. I bought this "bookcase" to use as a storage shelving unit in my closet. My bathroom does not have a linen closet, so this product is serving as my linen closet! It is super sturdy, and I can hang other neat container store items off of the metal shelves. I hang my hair dryer on an 'S' hook off the side, as well as a clothes drying hanger that allows you to hook multiple small items to air dry. I realize that this product is a stylish bookcase, meant to be "seen" out in a den or living room, but it sure does add some classy storage to my otherwise lacking master bath/closet area!! Also, as an added bonus, this comes fully assembled!!! Simply unfold!! Awesome product!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't get enough I started with four shelves and I ran out of shelf space before I ran out of books. I have a total of nine. They fit in anywhere, they will be easy to take with me when I move, and they are VERY sturdy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Booklover's shelving The six-tier folding bookcases are awesome! I am a bibliophile and finding strong, portable, and affordable bookcases is difficult. I've purchased four from The Container Store. The employees loaded them into my Explorer, and I was able to off-load, unpack, and set them up by myself. No tools were needed. The bookcases are now loaded with my hardback craft books. They have held-up without any signs of sagging for over five years now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy and Easy! After spending a great deal of time searching for the best bookshelves for my limited space, I chose three Iron Folding Bookcase products. The depth was exact for my specifications. The strength of the metal is capable of holding oversized, heavy art books. The balance of the design is flawless. My favorite part: there is nothing to build, no parts to assemble. It is so easy! The shelves unfold into place. I utilized the service in which I picked up my three boxes at the store, no waiting, no shipping fee, etc. Each item was heavy, but not too heavy to manage. My wall looks great with the shelves.

Community Q&A

Would it be Useful.

I have about 258 DVDs right now and I was wondering if this would be good to store them and about how many would I be able to fit on one shelf. I think this would look better against my wall where I have their extreme crates right now. Thanks!
Asked by: Denise1961
Based on the 1/2" width of an average DVD case, you could fit 52 DVDs on each shelf, for a total of 312 DVDs on the entire bookcase.

Will this piece fit into a space that is only 11.75" deep?

Asked by: Para210
This bookcase is 11-1/4" deep so it should work for your space.

Is the width listed in the product description accurate? Are there any parts that extend beyond the width listed in the specs?

I would like to line three of these up side by side in an 84-inch space. Are there any bolts or small parts that would extend beyond the stated width? If the width of 27 3/4 is accurate, three would add up to 83.25 inches, so it would just fit. Thank you.

I want to create a "rustic industrial" look by laying wood board flats over each shelf. I want to know if 1"x10" boards will work, or if I will have to cut-down 1"x12"s to a custom depth.

Any recommendations for storing toys, board games & video games using this?

How well would this work for toy storage? I currently use cubbies but don't like being confined to the square shape of the cubbie shelves. Any recommendations for containers/bins that would work well with this for small items that need to be contained? Thanks!

I just moved into an apartment with hardwood flooring. Does Container Store recommend additional floor protectors (beyond the provided screw-on feet) to minimize potential damage, due to weight over time? If so, which catalog/part numbers?

Shelf weight capacity? 2 Container Store answers say 60 lbs., 1 says 30 lbs.

I'm wondering how much weight each shelf can hold. I see the question has been asked in the past, but two official Container Store answers say 60 lbs., and one official Container Store answer says 30 lbs. Which is correct? I'm looking to use this for books and binders and want to make sure it's strong enough. Thanks very much!
