Community Q&A

Removing this shelf from the wall!

I'm trying to repaint a room that has this shelve. How do I disassemble so I can put it back up afterward. I cannot get the glass to come out of the corner bracket.
Asked by: FirstBase
You may recall that when you installed the shelf, you had to remove the protective paper from a self-stick adhesive pad on the under side of the upper portion of the bracket. To remove the shelf, simply use a single-edge razor blade to scrape the adhesive pad from the glass. It should come right off. Tilt the outer edge of the glass upward and the shelf should slide right out. You'll probably want to replace the adhesive pad when you re-install the shelf. As an alternative, just apply a thin coat of rubber cement to the underside of the upper portion of the bracket before you insert the shelf.

Does the shelf stick out 1 ft from the wall?

Asked by: Jnette
It's a 12" radius quarter circle so, yes, it sticks out one foot from both walls.

How much depth at the front of the shelf sits at the width of 12"?

I'm trying to determine if these shelves can fit plates that are 9.5" W in diameter.
Asked by: NataliePO
The shelf is a quarter-circle with a 12" radius. I had to draw this out and apply Pythagorean's theorem, but the answer is that in theory, the shelf can hold up to a 9.9" diameter plate without it overhanging the edge.

Could this be installed in a corner that is created by a kitchen cabinet and the wall?

Asked by: nikita3983
The shelf bracket has a single hole and mounts with a 3/8" wood screw at a 45 degree angle with respect to the wall. Since you'd be installing the shelf on an ordinary wall, your studs will be simple 2x4's, with a nominal width of 1 3/4". If your cabinet is anchored directly into a stud and the stud is essentially even with the end of the cabinet, you might be able to secure the shelf bracket, but that wouldn't be enough. Unless you're cabinet is solid wood - a rarity these days - you would need to reinforce it with a block of wood inside the cabinet in the back corner directly next to where the shelf would be. Otherwise, the shelf bracket would likely push through the side of the cabinet and wreck it. So to answer your question, it's not recommended, but may be possible if there is a stud in the right place.

In the descriptor, it says the corner should have all-stud construction. How do I determine if my corner is built with all-stud construction? Thanks.

Asked by: Sandy22
As per my review, unless you have a way to get behind your wall, you really can't. An electronic stud finder won't tell you if the studs completely fill the corner. Even if you do have all-stud construction, that is no guarantee that the studs overlap enough to provide solid support for your shelf. That's why I down-graded my rating to only 3 stars for what would otherwise be a 5-star product. If you know what you're doing, it's a great shelf. If you really want this shelf, drill a 1/8" pilot hole directly into the corner where you want your shelf, at exactly the height where you want the top of your shelf. Drill straight back into the corner at a 45 degree angle with respect to both of the walls, to a depth of about 1.5". Probe the resulting hole with a 2" or longer nail that's small enough to pass into the hole. If you can pass the entire length of the nail into the hole, the studs aren't adequate to support the shelf. You might be able to get by with a snap toggle drywall anchor. I don't recommend conventional toggle bolts because of the angulation.

How much weight does each shelf hold?

Asked by: davidanddonna
The weight capacity is 30 pounds when installed into wood studs. If studs are not present, you'll need to use our 3/16" toggle bolts, listed in the "We Also Recommend" section on the product page.
