How to remove leveling feet to put casters on poles?

The Metro poles have leveling feet so the casters won't go in the bottom of the poles. How do I remove the leveling feet to put the casters on or do I need to turn the poles upside down to use the casters? This seems like a less-than-desirable answer, especially considering the amount of money these costs. Why are these casters recommended for these poles?
Asked by: peabea
I too could not find any instructions on the best way to do this so I guessed. I don't know that this is the official way to do it, but I didn't want to turn the pole upside down and insert the caster on the top of the pole and subsequently have all my indicator numbers then also be upside down. Instead, I first unscrewed the leveler foot from each pole. I then removed the plastic cap from the top. I used a flathead screw driver to pop it off. Be careful not to stab yourself with the screw driver. Just take your time to work the head of the screw driver underneath the cap and pop it off. I had a piece of 8' rebar laying around so all I did was insert the rebar into the now open top end of the post and with a couple of forceful hits down onto the leveler plug, it pops right out. Watch were the plug rolls to, you'll want to save it. Remove the rebar, replace the plastic cap to the top end of the post and insert the caster into the now open bottom end of the pole. You may have to tap the caster a few times to get it fully inserted into the post. It's a snug fit, which is a good thing. Save the original leveling foot plugs as you may some day want to convert them back in the future if your needs change. Just go through the same process as above to remove the casters and replace with leveling foot plugs. Hope this helps and works for you.
