Good for archiving but not active filesMy only issue with this box is that the hanging files slide off the sides, so every time I move and open the box I have to lift the files back up.

Simple and niceI needed something on the smaller side for some overflow file storage, and this was just the right size. The small storage space in the lid happened to be the same size as my small/portable external hard drive, so that was a nice surprise! The only downside is that it arrived without the latch/business card holder, so I'm currently using a twist tie to keep it securely closed.

Great organizer for scrappers!This is the best container ever for storing my hundreds of alphabet stickers for when I go scrapbooking. I have divided the stickers into categories - white stickers, black stickers, travel stickers, etc. and placed them in a Container Store file folder and then, into this tote. Now, finally, I can readily find the stickers I need.
It is also great for traveling to/from home to scrapbooking event. Sturdy and weather tight too.

Fit the bill perfectlyThis portable file box is exactly what I needed. I was literally handed a box of files from the previous leader of our group. I wanted to be able to have access to the files at our meetings so I needed something I could tote around with me. The compartment on the top is perfect for pens, highlighters, paper clips, sticky notes, etc. It's good and sturdy for long term use.

Great little file organizerThis is the perfect size file storage container for the more important documents that I need access to frequently (medical records, school items, insurance documents). I love that it doesn’t take up a lot to space and it easy to grab and go. I am a fan of the storage trays in top as well - this way I can Store items like paper clips, folder tabs and labels easy and don’t have to look for them when I need To add a new folder.

The search is overPaperwork organized in labeled hanging files all in one place is one of the keys to efficiently finding what you need fast. I love that this helps me keep my office supplies in the same place too and is weather tight. Because, what is the point of keeping the paperwork if it isn't important enough to be protected.

Great for easy to grab important documentsI purchased this about a year or so ago and I still love it. Given at the time I just needed something small as I didn't have a lot of documents. Now I use it for emergency grab and go. It's water proof and has a small space to keep pens and paper clips in. I really appreciate that its clear since it looks simple and clean. Great little filing tote for someone who is just starting to get organized.

Nice file, but could be improved upon....As others have noted, the separate 'pop up' top for pens, paper clips, etc, could be more functional,.. I was hoping my small external drive would fit... Nope. Not deep enough... Maybe make the both sides flip tops? Also, make sure to check it before buying - the first one I picked off the shelf was cracked... Overall, it's a nice, compact little file for important papers and emergencies... Grab and go, if need be...

Why Me ?Ok, 100% of the customers love this tote rating it 5 Stars across the board. I don't get it because my experience has been different. Of the 4 I've purchased I've had to exchange all 4 and always for the same reason- after a while, the clasp won't stay attached-it falls off of the frame. To clarify, if I'm not using the tote regularly the clasp may stay put such as the 3 stored in the basement. *However*, when I'm using the 1 in my office regularly (1-2x per wk). the clasp eventually just, falls off; It must be fiddled with to reattach to frame. It happened again yesterday -after 6 months or so, the clasp didn't hold. When this happens and you're not immediately aware, once you lift the tote using the handle its lid flies open and everything inside tumbles out- of course, landing directly atop the detached clasp. For goodness sake, I'm not rough on these things, they're not fragile to begin with. Yet, this is so predictable and annoying that I will not waste my money, nor time, again, buying these. Note: If the clasps worked properly this *would* be a 5 star item.

Alternative UsesI didn't want this for files; I needed a new box to carry toiletries in.
My husband and I rarely travel by air, so concerns about size are generally nonexistent; we just pop our regular shampoo and body wash bottles into a plastic bin with toothbrushes, etc. and put the bin in the backseat of the car. So I wanted something that the bottles could all stand upright in, had one handle on top for easy carrying, and could withstand a leaking liquid inside without ruining anything outside of the bin.
Well, we went out of town last weekend and this passed! Sturdy, easy to carry, easy to fill.

Best Ever First Time File OrganizerThe Watertight Portable File Tote is perfect for young adults just starting college or going out on their own. I purchased 3 of these for my college aged kids as they needed to keep important records and papers for themselves. Resume's, bank statements, tax returns, college records and credit card statements are easily categorized and stored in this Organizer. Perfect SizeI'm loving my two portable file totes. I purchased them not because of their water proof ability or portability but because they are well made quality products that are the perfect size to handle.
I keep my two file toes on a top shelf so keeping them small and light weight is key for usability. I separate my files into long term files (Lucky 7) & current files (present moment) and that system works well in two totes.
I would recommend this product to anyone looking to save space in their home while still keeping important papers. The value is great and the bonus cubby holes on the lid are perfect for keeping post it flags, folder labels and colorful pens for filing. It becomes an all in one filing system that I can move around the house.

Well-made, good style, and convenientI love this box. I am not a huge filing cabinet person, but my bookkeeper suggested I get a file box to put my receipts and other accounting documents in. I bought this box because I liked the style of it, and it seemed sturdy, and I was right. It looks great if it needs to be exposed in the house, the handle is convenient to be able to take it with me if I need to, and I like the space on the top to be able to open it and put in small things that might also be necessary. Great product, and although I haven't tested it, I know it's advertised as watertight also!

Best file box I've triedI have 2 of these - one for school files and one for personal files. These are a great size, lightweight and work perfectly for me. I love the top tray for pencils, labels, etc. They stack nicely so it's easy to bring them out at the beginning of the month and put them away when I'm done with the bills. I spilled a cup of coffee on one and not a drop got inside so I guess that is a little proof that it is indeed watertight! If I had more files, I'd buy more of these.

Great file keeper!I use these to keep my current years tax receipts handy all year round. I also use them for my kids school projects and papers and then mark the box and stow it away once the years over. Durable, yet still light weight and they stack nicely. snap and stack!I really needed a clear, handled file box. I was shocked how difficult it was to find one... well, actually SIX!. I ventured into the world of homeschooling and use a curriculum that is broken down into 12 week blocks in three cycles... so I needed 2 boxes for each cycle. And these were perfect! Heavy weight plastic. Sturdy. Holds over 12 folders that are moderately full. Nifty storage top. Warning: make sure you are careful with the lock...it snaps closed but can also snap off! Easy to put back on!

Love this!!I love this little box! I bought this to try and get my miscellaneous papers in order, the little things like manuscripts & poems (I'm a writer in my spare time), old letters from friends when I was young, and old journal entries. I love love love it, I bought hanging folders and I just put everything in, nice & neat & clearly labeled! And since it's watertight, I don't have to worry about putting it in the outside storage at my apartment, my papers will be safe!

Does the lid compartment open just on the one side pictured or does tne other side open as well for more small compartments?

Are the length and width dimensions taken from the top or bottom of the box? i.e. Does the box taper?
