Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very Disappointing About six months ago, I bought one of these for each bathroom. I decided to buy this glass/metal one rather than replace my plastic version because I had replaced them several times due to the pump losing the ability to spring back into position- always within a year. Our household is all adults, so it wasn't like they were being handled roughly which might have explained the premature failure. I believed quality materials would result in a higher quality product. Day one: I noticed that of the three, only one sat level on the counter. One rocked slightly while the third one rocked substantially when pumping. Two of the pumps worked well, but one of them was very tricky about where it had to be positioned in order to press down & dispense foam- most of the time it froze as if it were locked. So I put this pump on the least level jar and placed that one in the least used bathroom. A week later: I got a small silicone soap tray for the two that rocked. This not only silenced the clunking (from the heavy glass rocking on the marble counter), it also worked well for catching any drips. Eventually, I got a third one for the perfectly level dispenser. A few weeks after that: one of the two good pumps began to get picky about the position of the pump much like the trouble-maker pump, but it only did this some of the time. On the plus side, I noticed that these pumps did not get the build up of foam residue around the nozzle like the plastic ones always had. A few months after purchase (now): one still pumps fine most of the time. The original troublemaker has gotten a little harder to find a place where it will allow me to depress it and sometimes it doesn't really foam up like it should when I finally get it to dispense. The third one that started off good but didn't last long has completely stopped foaming when it dispenses. It comes out as watered down soap but with way too much pressure behind it- think squirt gun, only with soapy water! Taking it apart to insure it wasn't clogged didn't resolve the problem. Sorry, I cannot give my recommendation to purchase when my experience has been that only 1 out of 3 functions as it should at this point. Again, they were all purchased earlier this year and were all gently used. The product used in all of them is a nationally recognized brand of foaming hand soap sold in large, eco-friendly bags for the purpose of refilling foaming dispensers. I have doubts that the third one will last for a full year, but hope it proves me wrong as it is the only reason this isn't a 1-star rating.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good dispenser- stops working Great dispenser. It used to make substantial foam and looks durable. It suddenly stopped working after a few months. It’s going back for an exchange.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best soap dispenser for one-handed use I stood in the aisle trying every soap dispenser one-handed. This one won. It's glass and heavy, and stays put even when empty. I put it on top of Container Store's stainless steel two-piece tray. It fits perfectly, with room for a sponge or drain stopper: https://www.containerstore.com/s/kitchen/sink-under-sink/sink/stainless-steel-2-piece-sponge-tray/123d?productId=10005749 It's bigger than I wanted, but they all seem huge. It doesn't look overwhelming--maybe the glass and square shape help hide the size. Minus a half star because mine often shoots foaming spray straight, rather than down into your hand/rag/sponge. I forget to keep the dishrag in front and end up with foaming spray on my arm or shirt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Purchase I use this with pure liquid castille soap and it works great! The glass bottle gives it a great weight and look and the pump, while plastic, works great and is well made.

Community Q&A

Does this have fill marks for the soap & water? Does the pump eventually stick?

The acrylic ones we've been using have fill lines for soap & water, so I don't have to use a separate container for mixing. But they start sticking after about 6 mos, no matter how thoroughly I clean them between batches of soap. How does this one compare?
Asked by: Original
How does this one compare? It is very nice looking. The end of the pump doesn't get a gooey build-up like the plastic ones I had previous to buying 3 of these. Like you, I found the plastic version always eventually lost the ability to return to its ready to use position. From the beginning, one of mine wanted to stick in the "full upright position" making it difficult to find a place where I could get it to press it down. Within a few weeks, another one of mine started to do the same thing. I actually find this much more annoying that having to pull up on the plastic pump when it would stick in the "down" position. As for the fill lines, this one does not have any indicators. There was a sticker on the bottom that said to mix one part soap to five parts water. If you decide to try this one, I wish you the best of luck getting one that keeps working like it is supposed to.

Is the pump metal or plastic?

Asked by: Rascal
Perhaps it has changed since the original answer was given (more than a year ago), but the ones I bought earlier this year (Spring 2017) are indeed brushed nickel, or some sort of metal, on the exterior parts of the pump. The internal parts of the pump are plastic and the jar/bottle is glass with a threaded top and a heavy base. Sadly, the metal pump did not prove to be as durable as I expected.
