No More Knives On Top Of The RefrigeratorWe went through a lonnnnng kitchen remodel this spring/summer and one of the first things on my wish list for the contractor was to no longer store the knives in a knife block on top of the fridge. You see, I'm short and I'd have to pull the block over to grab a knife, always envisioning a knife sliding out and stabbing me in the head (lived in the house 32 years).
Well, we have beautiful wide drawers and I bought a 14 slot and 7 slot for a total of 21 slots and all our knives fit and I still have room in the drawer for other items (long bbq tools).
These are beautiful wood blocks to go with our Wusthof and other brand knives. No more taking my life in my hand to get a knife.

Unfortunately too short for my knivesGood quality and small footprint in short, shallow drawer. Took a chance on it fitting my 8" Henckels knives but it wasn't long enough for the blades. Container Store made it easy to return though! Would recommend CS and this product to anyone w/Wusthof knives.

Terrific Space SaverI'm downsizing - & wanting to clear off my countertops as well - so I donated my Henckels knife block. This Wusthof knife block was the perfect size for the number of knives I needed alternate storage for - and also for the rather narrow drawer that I wanted to use. Nice weighty feel to it - doesn't slide around in the drawer. Smooth & finished on the outside too. Looks like it will be easier to keep clean than the block also [the slats you rest the knives in are open to the bottom so crumbs etc will fall THROUGH to the drawer bottom]. That's a bonus. Those countertop knife blocks, no matter how nice, are more difficult to keep clean. Very happy with purchase.

Absolutely fantasticI have had this for 8 years in two different kitchens and I absolutely love it. Design is perfect, it looks brand new, and I do not have some massive knife block consuming my counter space.

It does and I actually have the 14 and the 7-slot and stashed a knife in the gap where the two meet. (Have a lot of knives.) I put steak and paring knives on the top slots.

How much depth do you need when it is loaded up with knives?
I see that the block itself is 2 inches deep, but presumably the handles of the knives protrude above the top of the block. My drawer is only 2 1/8" deep with about 2.5" of clearance.

My drawer is 3" high and with the tallest knife 2.75", the drawer closes fine.

Do knife blades go through to bottom?
One of the reviews says the knives go all the way through the holder so the blades touch whatever surface is supporting the holder (like the drawer bottom), but the photo looks like there are 2 wood dowels that go all the way through horizontally and would support the knife blades.
Can someone tell me what is the case?

Yes, you are correct. Your knives rest on the 4 wooden dowels that run crosswise through the Knife Tray, not on the drawer or counter surface.
