Your favorite POP modular canisters have been improved. Designed to stack securely for space-efficient food storage in your pantry or kitchen cabinets, they now feature a slimmer shape and lids that come apart for easy cleaning. They're ideal for preserving the freshness of all your favorite dry food staples. Simply push down on the lid's button to create an airtight seal; press again to open. And under the lid of larger sizes, there's space to store a convenient Scoop, Date Tracker or terra cotta disk to keep brown sugar soft (sold separately). With a full range of sizes, these clear plastic food containers can store anything from teabags and candy to dry cereal to flour and more. They can even provide instant organization for office supplies or toys and crafts. We recommend hand washing.
Note: We recommend using the push-button to seal and unseal your POP Containers to ensure an airtight seal. The patented lid design features a silicone gasket with a flexible "fin." When you push the button, the gasket expands, pushing the fin against the POP Container walls to create an airtight barrier.
Being able to pull the lid off without using the push-button does not mean the lid wasn't sealed. Pulling the lid off temporarily "breaks" the contact between the flexible silicone seal around the lid and the Container walls - allowing air to come in and the lid to come off.

New style - terrible design and not airtight2 1/2 years ago I bought over 50 of these brand of containers. They have held up very well. I went back to the store this week to add on to my collection and found that the style I have has been discontinued. They have a new updated style. The sales clerk assured me they would stack just fine with my old style. They do stack but it’s not just fine because they are wobbly. Next, the design feels much flimsier and I can pull the top right off. Obviously it is not airtight. I don’t understand why brands won’t leave things alone. I do not recommend getting these. Maybe wait a while and see if they come back with the old ones.

Design change looks good, but lids no longer lockI have mostly an older model that is curvier. The design changed to be less rounded and the lid design changed with it. The new design looks neater when stacked, but the lids no longer lock securely when popped in. For the older containers, I can't remove the lid once it's locked. With the new ones, I can remove them pretty easily. I need more of these, but need the lids to lock securely to keep in spice smells.

Don’t expect tight seal; button press is a gimmickI originally wrote this review for the 5 piece baking set, but I actually own this 10-piece set and I noticed the reviews didn’t get combined for all the OXO pop sets. I also added an update at the end.
I've had this set for several years. I was showing one off to a friend recently, and she noticed that the lid easily came off without un-popping the lid. I went to check all my canisters and sure enough, the lids are easily removed even when the buttons are pressed in. I just never actually tried to take them off without pressing the button first.
Just to be sure there weren't sugar granules or other material affecting the seal integrity, I disassembled the tops and made absolutely sure I cleaned all parts of the containers & lids, let them dry fully, and tried the pop tops again to see if the seal was better. No difference; even with the buttons pressed in, they're still easily removed.
I haven't done any tests, e.g., with water, to see if they're truly airtight, but the seal appears to be no better than any of my other storage containers. In fact, my food storage containers have stronger seals, as indicated by the fact that it takes some effort to remove the lids even after I've released their seal tighteners. By contrast, when removing the lids of these OXO containers without unpopping the buttons, there's none of that 'seal-releasing' feeling one often experiences when opening a well-sealed container. The OXO lids (with buttons depressed) just slide out, with very little effort.
So in my experience, the main difference with the Pop containers is that with the button out, the lid is super loose, not even trying to be a lid. With the button in, the lid fits more securely, but using the button doesn't make a better seal than any other decent storage container. There's nothing special or unique about the seal these containers create.
Update: After having purchased a ProKeeper baking set as a replacement, I do miss one unique feature of the OXO set, which is its perfect stackability. The OXO containers can be nicely stacked into a compact, aesthetically pleasing formation, which is important to me because I have to store them on my counter. However, if you’re expecting the lids to seal into place, then the stacking convenience is outweighed by the fact that the lids easily slide out.

The perfect giftI purchased the OXO Good Grips POP Rectangular Canisters as a birthday gift for my sister. She just recently bought an industrial type apartment in Philadelphia and wanted a way to display her spices, flour, coffee, teas, etc in an open and visible way. She had black shelves installed on a brick wall in her kitchen. I bought her quite a few canisters/containers to use on her shelves. She uses them for flour, sugar substitute, coffee, teas, as well as different types of rice, pastas, popcorn, cereals and all of her spices. They all work so well for her, are convenient and easy to use, that I plan on doing the same thing when I move next year. She has received many compliments from friends as well as the contractors that are still helping her install and fix the usual things when buying a new home. The contractor that installed the kitchen shelves took numerous pictures once she was done placing her canisters in the order she wanted, so he could show his wife how nice it looked and to give her ideas for how to arrange their own kitchen.
My sister is over the moon happy with all the different canisters I gave her for her birthday. I can’t wait to be able to do the same in my new kitchen.

Efficient Good-Looking StorageI purchased a small, square short canister for my kitchen. It has a fun efficient lid and looks modern. Since then I have decided that I need more canisters for my Creative Room. The small Square short would be great to store sewing thread so I can see the colors. The storage would also be aesthetically pleasing on my black shelf system in that room.

Lid pops offI tried to use the mini size for my kosher salt because I'm looking for a good one hand option. Well when I lift and move the container by grabbing from the top like you would with small containers of salt the weight in the container causes the lid to pop off in your hand allowing the container of salt to fall. So I returned it. I've been in the store multiple times and check all the small ones for tightness. When the button is down and sealed you can still pull the lid off using hardly any effort.
You just don't move this size of container all around your counter tops or over to the island by grabbing from the side.

The dimensions given for the set of four mini OXO pop canisters are much larger than the individual square minis. Is this an error
Asked by: zeph rose
The 'Pop Mini Square' containers in this set are 3 1/8" cubes- 3 1/8" L/W/H. I asked the same question a year ago. I did purchase them and 2 nest on the lid of a narrow container perfectly. Description measurements are so off. Must be packaging measurements and not individual containers. TCS should really update it.
