Great....except for one thing.I really wanted to love these. I bought them to replace some older Bormioli jars, because I loved that they had the chalkboard labels already on them. However, I quickly noticed that the chalkboard labels are not all they're cracked up to be. Even though I used the chalkboard pens that were recommended by the Container Store, they do not fully erase on these jars.
As you can see in the picture below, the chalkboard label on the right has what's called "ghosting" no matter how hard I try to erase it. I've tried everything from vinegar, baking soda, bleach, rubbing alcohol, and the dishwasher, but whatever I previously wrote will always be there, which doesn't give it the "clean and organized" aesthetic that I try to go for.
The jars themselves are stellar. Airtight, and I like that they are glass. (As opposed to plastic.) If you plan on only using the same thing in one jar, or if you don't mind the "ghosting" on the labels, then go for it. However, if you ever plan on swapping out the item in the jar, like I wanted to, then go for the jars without the labels on them and purchase individual chalkboard stickers.

is glass better than plastic for storage of food? The more I read, the less I want to store food in plastic. I discovered these storage jars about 6 months ago, Each one has a chalk plate on the front where you can write what is stored and the date that you stored it. Seals well. My only complaint is the quality of the glass used for these storage jars. When I bought the first four jars, the glass from the mold was clean, clear, unblemished. The last two not so much. I see air bubbles, and lines in the glass from the molds. I hope those lines don't eventually become clacks in the glass. I went through every jar in two stores and every jar, in every size that was on the shelf, all had the same glass defects. If they were discounted, I would have less problems with the glass quality but for full price, the manufacturer in Italy should do better and go back to previous techniques for making the glass.

Great purchase!Bought several of these to sit on the counter next to my blender. Perfect to hold my chia and flaxseed for making daily smoothies! The seal is an airtight fit and the hinged lid is snug yet easy to open.

Best jars ever for pantryI love these jars so much. They made my pantry look so impressive and organized. I used them for choc chips, rice, tea bags, coconut, candies and I'm just getting started. I ordered another set for all of my pasta. So great that you can write on the label and then just wipe it off when you use the jar for something else.
You will not be disappointed.

Great jars and so pretty!I purchased these chalk jars in all sizes to organize my dried goods in my pantry. I love the chalk label that can easily be cleaned off and changed. They are so pretty too! I also purchased some plastic scoops and will keep these in the jar for certain items such as sugar, coffee, flour, etc.
One thing to note - be sure to call the Container Store 1-800 number to find out how much each jar size will hold. The ounces listed don't represent the volume the jar will actually hold.

Looks great on the kitchen counterI purchased these to store salt, sugar, and flour. Obviously it can get messy if you throw the wrong one in the mix, so it's great having the labels and different sizes to help tell the difference. Plus, they look great on the counter.

Perfect!I bought a few of these jars to stash my seeds and nuts in. Since I'm always buying and rotating new seeds, I wanted a label system that would be easy to change. These are perfect for that! My only complaint is that they didn't come with chalk and the store didn't sell any. When I eventually got around the buying some chalk, it was a little too "fat", making the small label a little tough to write it. Other than that, I love these jars!

Love these jars! These jars are so gorgeous and durable! I bought four 16 oz ones and loved them so much, I bought more! I also got some of the larger jars for things like oatmeal and couscous. The 16 oz are great for nuts and seeds and dog treats. I also have dropped them more than once and they don't break OR open. Plus, they look awesome in my kitchen! When I have more shelf space, I'm buying more!
Do the chalk labels come off when the jars are washed?
Can you put these in the dishwasher? Do the labels come off with washing? Sorry, but I never seen these in person, as we do not have a Container Store in my area. 2nd time I've tried submitting this question....:(
Asked by: SuezEQ
The labels do not come off during a gentle hand washing. I have not tried putting them in the dishwasher as I think handwashing was recommended.

Can these be used to store sauces? The photo shows them with jam, but the product description says these are for dry ingredients.
Asked by: CleanCookingTX
I use these jars for dry goods only. You will want to use canning jars for sauces. The lids on canning jars have a wax seal that makes them air tight until opened. Try Bell or Mason jars for sauces.
I do highly recommend the Container Store Jars for ANY dry goods.

Can I use the largest container to store spaghetti?
I want to buy a matching set of containers, and the most important thing to me is knowing that my spaghetti will fit.
Asked by: LaureEnough
The largest jar is 8.75" tall, so it would most likely not be tall enough to store spaghetti.

Sugar storage
Will the largest of these hold a full 4lb bag of granulated sugar? And, if it will, is the mouth wide enough to scoop it out with a standard 1/3 measuring cup?
Asked by: rdm1228
The 1.6 qt. Hermetic Jar 1500 ml will hold 2.82 lbs of granulated sugar. You can separate a 4 lb bag of granulated sugar into two of the 34 oz. Hermetic Jar 1000 ml.
1 lb of granulated sugar = 429.26 ml
The Hermetic Jars with Chalk Labels have a 3-1/2" diameter opening.
