Best way to store food itemsI absolutely love these glass jars. They are airtight, seal quickly and easily and keep food fresh.
I love the thickness of the glass so I know they will not break.
I love that I can see through the jar knowing exactly what is inside.
And the fact that they are glass and not plastic reassures me that there's no leaching of plastic or chemicals.
These are the best glass containers I have found! I highly recommend them.

Great for tea storage!I bought the 7.75 oz version to store loose-leaf tea in, and it works great! The water/air-tight seal is super important to keeping it last a long time, and it also just looks nice sitting on my counter! Will definitely be buying more.

Gasket supply problemI love the jars, but the rubber gaskets that come with them are one-time use only, according to the instructions listed on an insert in each jar. But the Container store doesn't sell the gaskets, so while I will try to wash them and use vinegar to remove bacteria, I really don't like reusing them.
The container store should sell these gaskets.

Functional QualityI love the simplicity and functionality of hermetic glass storage jars or clamp jars as I like to call them. Things are stored tightly and are easily identified. Unfortunately weather in the great southwest can be very dry and replacement seals/gaskets are sometimes needed. These seals are perfectly sized and fit easily on all jars with a standard opening. The white color does not distract from the clean look of the jars and compliments any decor if jars are on display. A small investment to keep jars functioning as designed.

Best jars for food storage, and at a fair price.Excellent Hermetic Storage (i.e., bail & clamp). I bought 5 of the 5 liter (5.3 quart) this past week. Be advised there is sometimes confusion between use of liters or quarts in describing and finding these jars. Nothing keeps bugs out like bail & clamp., especially if you store grains and legumes like me. I've been using this brand from Container Store for past 5 years and have had no problems. Also, it's nice to shop at a store where the staff actually knows the merchandise and will knock themselves out helping you find what you need!

Love these airtight jars!I have about 60 of these jars and will be ordering more. We recently moved to TN and I was having a problem with pantry moths getting into my dried goods! This is no longer an issue and everything looks so nice, neat, and organized! These jars also keep my food fresher longer. I will be ordering more to organize the other side of my pantry!

Beautiful, organized storage jarsThese jars have enabled me to transition my spices from a random assortment of store-bought packaging to an organized, beautiful look at a great price. I also have begun to use the larger jars to store my grains (lentils, bulgur, split peas, etc.) and sugars in. Eventually, everything will be stored in the jars!

Great jar at an even better price!I use these jars for canned items that I use bit by bit. They keep the food very fresh, hold in any odors, and are a snap to clean. The gasket and metal hinges come off easily so that the glass lid and jar can go through the dishwasher. They are a good size that are easy to pick up, even with my smaller-sized hands. The price is excellent! Very pleased with these jars and they are highly recommended.

Great Jars!Although my all time favorite glass jars are the Le Parfait French Hermetic Glass Terrine, they don't come big enough, to hold my some of my spices I order, in one Pound bags. These hold the whole one pound bags of most of the spices nicely, except for the Bay Leaves and Rosemary, which was in such a vast fluffy supply, they will be able to bury me with some of it, as I will never use them up. LOL I wish the bottle mouth was a bit larger, but all in all, great jars.

Perfect in the PantryAfter looking through the selection of jars at the Container Store I ultimately decided to buy these for several reasons. First of all, they are more square than most jars and therefor maximize shelf space. I was bummed to find out how expensive the french ones (similar look but round instead) were but then I saw these and they are a great price. So not only do they look great in my pantry but they are affordable!
I ultimately ended up buying a few more and making labels for them at home to keep our tiny pantry a little better organized. They seal great, don't leak, are more durable than I would have thought, and aren't too heavy.

GOOD FOR THE PRICEI made sugar scrubs as Christmas gifts and I bought these hermetic jars to put them in. Overall I think the jars are great, they made my homemade body scrubs look professional. The 8 oz. size was just right for gift giving and the price was great. Whisk had the same jars for $5.50 which I think is overpriced! The Container Store definitely had a better deal. Two things can make this an even better product: 1) the metal hinges could be made better because although they don't fall apart, they get disjointed easily; 2) the rubber seal should be clear instead of white, aesthetically it would look better.

Perfect Storage JarsI bought the 7.75 oz and the 16 oz size jars (2 each for a total of 4 jars) for my clay therapy.
The smaller jar will hold clay magma for my nephew’s acneic skin (sample size; it won’t last long if used in the therapeutic application) and medicinal topical applications for my home use. The two larger jars will hold clay magma so that I always have a batch ready for use. I chose these imported jars because The Container Store offered a discount with my first order and my therapy highly suggested hermetic jars for storage. I’ve never really paid attention to these types of jars before but now that I have a specific use for them, I will return here for more once my family starts using my batch up. Great value and fast shipping. I love that it arrived bubble-wrapped around each jar then bubble-wraped throughout the durable cardboard box. The items arrived FAST and undamaged. I have yet to use them as my clay supply is on order, but they were easy to prepare (apply the rubber seal/gasket to the lid and wash the inside) and the quality is very nice. I don’t mind that these are imported since the quality is excellent. I like the idea of glass vs plastic inthat it won’t ever leach toxins into whatever I store in the jars. Thanks for the sale!

Love These JarsI purchased these glass jars online, hoping they would go well with some others that I already have. I needn't have worried. These glass storage jars are great for airtight storage of whatever...The bails are not hard to open and close and yet not loose either, (a problem with some other jars I've encountered). It would be nice to have the mouths a little larger but it's ok.
I'm getting ready to purchase some of the smaller sizes for teas and and coffees!

Hermetic glass jarsI am so very pleased with my purchase of these jars. I fully plan to get more of these, some "ketchup" jars and amber jars in the near future. It is so refreshing to be able to find such quality "old fashioned" jars! Awesome storage solution!I bought several of these jars (different sizes) when we finished our new kitchen. I love them! Their are enough size options for many different uses. Exactly what I was looking forI love these jars! I have several in different sizes for various foods in my house. They're perfect for vegetables and I love all the size options available. The only thing that concerns me is that I have some of the smallest size for loose leaf tea, and the silicone gaskets have a slight odor, which I worry my tea may absorb. Otherwise they're all great.

functionalI went to the store for shelving and saw the storage jars on sale. Since I needed a large one for flour, I went ahead and picked it up. Much easier than making another trip to a different store. One of the things I love about The Container Store, they have everything!
are the bails made with stainless steel wire, or a different metal?

Yes, the wire on the jars is stainless steel. They come off very easily for cleaning purposes. I rinse the wires off and leave them to drain in a dish drainer. After several rinses, no sign of rust at all.

What size jar would fit for 1 lb of herbal product

Your product was likely sold by weight not volume which makes it difficult to determine what size jar you need. If you want the look of a full jar a pint (16 oz) jar should suffice. If you pefer your items loosely stored, any jar larger than 16 oz would work which can also allow for easier dispensing.

How do you put on the silicone ring so it doesn’t fall off when you’re using the jars for storage rather than canning?

The glass lids are designed with a small lip to hold the seals in place. The seals are also sized so they fit snuggly on the lid. By pulling slightly on the seal to pull it over the lip you should be able to place the seal on the lid so that it stays in place.

The lids of most hermetic glass storage jars are made of glass. However there are some brands of jars that come with plastic or aluminum lids. If you prefer your lids to be glass be sure the product description states that lids are also made of glass.

Is the opening large enough for a 1 cup measuring cup to dip in?

Sadly, no. But a 1/2 cup will fit nicely. That is the only con of these jars. The mouth could be a bit larger, in my humble opinion. But, they come in a larger size than any other jars I've found, as far as the amount of quarts and ounces, that they will hold. And that kind of locking system. So, that is a plus! I love the Le Parfait French Hermetic Glass Terrines, but the sizes just don't go big enough for some things. Good luck!
