Pretty but doesn't do the jobWe bought this around 2 years ago but only used it for a few months. It looks very nice but unfortunately the magnet is too week for many of the knives. They slide down and don't hold well at all. I would not recommend this knifestrip at all.

Magnet Not Strong EnoughJust like the other review I've seen on here, I bought this because I loved the smooth bamboo look. Luckily, I tested the strip before actually putting holes in the wall, because the magnet wasn't anywhere close to being strong enough to hold any of my knives.
I tried with an 8" chef's knife AND with a very thin, light bread knife. Neither of which was close to staying on.
Oh well. I now own, and LOVE, the other magnet strip sold by The Container Store.

Glad I tried the magnet before installing itI'm not sure if the handles on my knives are much heavier than average, but the knives slide right off the magnet with the handles on the bottom (where they are easiest to reach). I'm looking for a replacement for a great magnetic strip I used for 10 years (that is now too long after a kitchen remodel). This is going back to the store. Would probably work for steak knives, but nothing with any actual heft to it.
