Not worth itThey may be made out of glass and in USA (not China as most of the stuff these days), but the lids don't seal, and there's just no way to keep any products fresh! A rubber band around the lid would have been nice..? I can't keep anything in this - looking to return asap.

Lids Don't SealAll the 5 star reviews were a little misleading. These look great and very nice to look at. But I was super disappointed that the lids only loosely set on top of the jar. There's no seal. There's no way anything else in there won't go stale.

AwfulWe purchased two of these for flour storage. As the other reviewers have said, the lids are not airtight, have no silicone or rubber ring and slide all over the place. Also, and its a weird thing to say, but this glass is SLICK. So slippery. Trying to carry one from the cabinet to the counter is a feat of magic to not drop it or have the lid slide completely off. If they hadn’t been xmas gifts, (no receipt), they would have been returned. DO NOT BUY.

Not AirtightThis container is cute, but I was planning to use it for flour and I like my flour to be in a somewhat airtight container. I thought there would be some rubber on the lid or on the opening. When the lid is on, the lid/container is lopsided (the lid goes up and down like a seesaw) so the fit it’s not tight at all and plenty of air can go through those spaces.
I can’t think of anything I would like to put in there without wanting to get any air in there

The Biggest Glass Jar!I decided to show off my dog’s Wellness Lamb food and there it sits on the bar in all its glory . Penny, my dog of eight years, likes to see her food displayed so regally and she constantly reminds me. No, her helping are always the same.

gorgeousI purchased the 3 quart and 1 gallon containers. I wasn't sure what I would use them for, but ended up (believe it or not) storing knee high socks in the 1 gallon and ankle socks in the 3 quart canister. They look great and add some color to my dresser. I am considering buying more, but did to find a purpose first! These have been my favorite purchase at The Container store so far!

Lid doesn’t stay onThis is fine if you only use the canister on a counter and you don’t have to lift it or move it with the lid on. Because the lid slides around and easily comes off. Then you have a relatively heavy glass disc flying around.
It should have a rubber insert to keep the lid on and provide a more air-right environment

GREAT to display whatever your heart desires!I LOVE this Glass Canister! I have a large amount of small alcohol bottles and put them in the jar to display and for easy access when making drinks. The glass canister is heavy glass, not delicate. Perfect for just about anything you want to display. You could actually put a terrarium in this canister! Many use options!

Better than I imagined. These glass canisters are heavy duty, solid and beautiful. I only wish I had more counter space to hold more of these beautiful glass canisters. They are as useful as they are amazing to look at. The opening is large enough to use any type of scoop or cup to measure out your ingredients.
I was lucky enough to buy these on sale and got to pay a terrific price. You can’t go wrong purchasing these canisters even if you purchase them at full price.

Perfect Jars!!!I love these jars because of its wide opening rim. It’s perfect for storing my adhesives & twines in our arts and crafts room, and easy to reach them because of its wide opening. They are perfect addition for my craft supplies organization.

A great multi purpose container!I have used these jars for everything from dog biscuits to cookies to Keurig cups. Our dog especially liked them as the familiar “clanking” sound when I removed the lid gave him high hopes of a treat.

Great temp home for our goldfish! My son won a carnival goldfish last weekend and all we had to put it in was a small sphere like vase, that you see at the carnival, before the goldfish is taken home. We didn’t want the fish to go stir crazy, so in desperation we found these Anchor Hocking glass canisters at massive discount retailer, since they didn’t have fishbowls or tanks. Goldy will move into a much larger tank, but he’s spent the week in this oversized cookie jar and seems happy enough.
Once he’s moved out, we’ll put a fruit display in the big cookie jar or perhaps turn it into a terrarium! The 2 gallon size has many possibilities!

Love these jars for treats!I love these jars along with my hermetic jars. It keeps my pantry so nice and organized. I have 3 that I use to store the kids snacks in so they can choose between salty, sweet, and protein! You can see when you're getting low and it's time to refill and everything is in one nice area. They are nice and heavy jars with a heavy lid to keep items fresh and pests out (besides the kids). :)

So many options! These jars are great! The glass is perfect, not super thin. Very well made! And the kid has a really solid suction but not hard to open. The sky is the limit to what all these can be used for and I could be used in any space in the house. I have them in my dining room, laundry room, and bathroom. These will not disappoint!!! Or never go out of style.

Classic StyleWe just remodeled our kitchen with black/white theme and I wanted something simple, but classy to keep my flours, sugar & coffee in while they sat on the counter. It looks great lined up against the back splash. I love that these canisters are all glass and made in the USA. Not cheap looking at all and are very sturdy. I highly recommend.

Built and BountifulWith all the negatives associated with plastic for food storage, glass containers become all the more important. This jar is certainly huge! It is also sturdy (as sturdy as glass can be) and the lid creates enough of a seal to keep food fresh. It's also great for lots of liquids for parties, big parties!!

Great Canister, but needs modificationThese canisters are wonderful. The shape and size are very appealing and the lids are easy to grab and hold on to. However, for proper food storage, there really should be a silicone gasket on the lid to seal out moist air - especially during the summer.

Not Great for Food Storage...I usually am happy with what I get from the container store. This was an exception, in one case. On one of the jars, it wouldn't form a seal. Still okay for use of non-perishables, but not a high quality item.

Almost Makes me Enjoy Doing LaundryThis jar looks beautiful on top of my washing machine. I always purchase the big containers of OxyClean and got really tired of digging in that blue box.
I poured it all in here and it looks awesome! These jars are great for so many reasons, but that's what I'm using it for at the moment!

Love These!I actually purchased two different sizes of this glass canister...I found them on the clearance section of the store because they didn't have accompaning lids. I am still thrilled with what I've used them for. I use them to store all my threads and scrap fabric for sewing. It's great to see what's in each canister and it brings in color to my sewing space! Love them! But to be honest, I wouldn't have purchased them if they were full price. I got them for over 60% off each of them.
I wouldn’t say it’s airtight, because it doesn’t have a rubber gasket around the lid. But, we didn’t put the lid on, because we thought our goldfish may suffocate.

Are these air tight? I want to put brown sugar in one but am worried it will harden if there isn’t a good seal on these
Asked by: Madelynnn
I've used this canister for brown sugar for over 15 years. Stuff a marshmallow in the lid's hollow knob or swipe a drop of water around the inner surface of the lid every so often. My brown sugar has never hardened.

Can you buy just a lid?
We received a 2 gallon jar that appears to match the one you sell, but it didn't include a lid. Do you sell the lids separately? I don't see them listed on the website.
Asked by: EMcQ
I didn't see them at the store or on the website. Fortuitously I found one at a bath shop that used dozens of the 2-gallon jars to display products. They never used the lids and were happy to give me one.

Can I purchase gaskets to put on these lids.
Wanting to store my dry goods. I live in South Carolina so the humidity is crazy. We put rice in our salt to keep the moisture out its that bad!
Asked by: JoAnnaSC
Thats unfortunate that these jars do not have gaskets OR are air tight because I would have used them for storing various flours (cake, all purpose flours) and sugars. They need air tight against insects, humidity and to preserve their properties.

Recently, we introduced our readers to professional organizers Joni and Kitt (of Practically Perfect) and Jessica (of Organized Mama). With a shared goal of teaching people how to think outside the box--er, container--they joined forces to show how a single jar can be used in a variety of ways throughout different areas of the home.
