No, there are plastic cover pieces. You'll want to put it all together in a garage or outside because the metal pieces will scratch hardwood.

It measures: 18" W x 17-1/4"L x 17-1/2" h. You can combine drawer systems to make them taller, but they do not just "Sit" on top of each other. If you reach out to one of our elfa designers at 1-800-733-3532 and they can help you put together a customized drawer system for you.

Does the block on the top of cabinet have to be installed/used for structural integrity? I don't have space/need to have top basket covered.

Height to top of drawer, not top of solid shelf
The usable opening under my bathroom counter is maximum of 16 1/2" but the height of this is 17 1/2". Is there at least an inch from the top of the top drawer to the top of the solid shelf above it? (I hope that makes sense) I'm afraid to buy it and have it be too tall to open the top drawer. I don't care about using the solid surface at the top, I just want to be able to use the drawers.
