Overview

Product Information

Museum Putty is a neutral, opaque blended rubber used by museum professionals and antique dealers as insurance against costly damage or loss. Its beige color makes it excellent for securing opaque (as opposed to clear) items such as porcelain, plates, statues, vases, pottery, figurines, antiques, and collectibles. Removable, reusable, non-toxic, and suitable for use on wood, each packet contains enough material for 40 or more items. Households with children or cats, and those who live in areas prone to earthquakes will find Museum Putty particularly helpful. It also simplifies dusting around delicate or fragile collectibles and is highly recommended for maintaining order on boats and in RVs. To use, take a small amount of putty and roll into balls or strips. Apply several to the bottom of the object, then gently press the object down on the display surface. To secure transparent items such as glass and crystal, try our Clear Museum Gel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite product in color!!!!! The Museum Putty is a tinted version of Museum Gel which is clear. The Museum Gel is a great decorating aid, holding items in place securely while being invisible. It is my favorite way to hold crystal candleholders In place on a glass table top. The uses are endless and now with a tinted version I can secure more items in place!!!l

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cat-proofing my apartment Does exactly what it says, and my clumsy (and sometimes plain ornery) cat can no longer knock things to the floor. Amen to that!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought this to hold a number of small items in place for a still life (i'm a painter) and it is working great. the relatively heavy items have not moved at all, and they have been stuck together for a week and a half using a very small amount of putty. I would highly recommend it. I have also found myself using the putty for a number of other things around the house. Works similarly to sticky tack, but is much easier to remove.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MULTI USES! I've used this product many times before to keep valuables on display in place. Only last week did I use it for plates on a wall! I was so surprised that it didn't stain my wall or the plate hanger. I have a set of three glass plates on display near a door. Needless to say, when the door is shut or slammed a little too hard, everything around it rattles including the plates. Last week I applied museum putty to the back brace of my plate holder. I simply molded it over the brace and allowed it to stick to the wall on its own. Works like a charm! My plates have stayed put without me having to straighten them out every time someone opens or closes the door. LOVE THIS PRODUCT!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Must for Cat Owners! I purchased this on a recommendation of a friend. I have a new kitten & this has been wonderful in preventing any breakage of vases, etc. A little bit goes on long way & does a good job. The only surface I had problems with was the hardwood floor (I had a vase with branches on the floor & was trying to secure it, but putty didn't stick).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Genius This stuff is the best. You probably don't think you have any reason to need this, but trust me you probably do. I especially love it for my printers box - I use it on all the little trinkets to stay in place and now I never have to worry about fragile items falling out and breaking. Peace of mind.

Community Q&A

Can you put it on wood?

Can you affix a pottery vase on a wood shelf?
Asked by: Vicki4451
Yes, this Museum Putty can be used on wood, provided the wood has been finished and sealed with a non-porous sealer. We do not recommend using this product on porous surfaces. It is recommended you test this on an inconspicuous location on any surface you intend on using this product.

The museum putty, does that work on ceramic items (teapot) that gets warm?

I have a very old ceramic tea pot, Looks like a Genie would come out of it. I used it for a long time until I noticed the handle had been glued on. The only reason I noticed is, I had the handle in one hand and the rest of the teapot in the other, It's a hallow handle & the Hot water goes through it. It has never leaked and I have been trying to find out what was used on it. No one seems to know. Thanks.
Asked by: weegee
Our museum putty is non-toxic and can be used on porcelain, plates, statues, vases, pottery, figurines, antiques, and collectibles. We do not recommend you use the museum putty on the teapot to repair because the handle on your teapot has Hot water that runs through. In this case it may cause the putty to dry, harden and crack and that could cause further damage.

Can I use this to hang a poster on a wall?

Asked by: MaxIp
Our Museum Putty is formulated to work best at securing decorative pieces and framed artwork to prevent accidental mishaps or damage from children, pets, or clumsy adults. It is not intended for securing posters to a wall. For securing poster to a wall, please see our recommendations below.
