Handy and attractiveI love this piece, and I'm surprised no one else has commented on it yet. It will serve the same purpose as a backstop bar, but gives broader coverage. My Elfa solution goes along a wall and continues (double sided) into a large open archway between the family room and playroom. I like this bar as a place to hang up my kids' drawings for temporary display. When there are no pictures up, I can still see through the open space to keep an eye on what they are doing in the next room.
It is also useful as a trellis to train the long branches on some houseplants we display on upper shelves. I had to use a shelf across a three foot gap, but I wish I could use a larger size of the double rail. It would work perfectly for the plants there.
I want the double rail in a three foot width, too, please!
Would this work for storing crafting ribbon in various roll diameters?

No, the bars of our Elfa Double Rail are secured at the ends, so there is no way to slide the rolls of crafting ribbon on to the rails.

What is the length of, the rail and can it be shortened if too long? Will this hold thicker wool scarves?

How much weight will the double rails support?
I assume the edges would support more weight than in the center, as they would be somewhat strengthened where they attach to the vertical standards. It seems to me the center might sag a little. So, if I keep the weight distributed more on the outsides, about how many pounds might this hold?

The double rails will support up to 10 pounds of evenly distributed weight. They're meant to hold lighter items such as scarves, necklaces, or light jackets.

Yes, our Elfa Double Rails are strong enough to support bath towels, but we caution against storing wet or damp towels on them for an extended period of time.
