elfa Casters Set of 4 is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from new black castors During our recent move one of my old original castors was broken. I checked with the store and they had been replaced with the new improved castors. I purchased a set during one of my many visits to the store in the Woodlands. They are very easy to replace and my set of elfa shelves are back in business. The castors are great on our new wood floors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from sturdy At first I thought these casters were ugly. But when I put them on my assembled frame and used them I was very happy with the functional aspects. They are solid, sturdy and love that I can use them in small spaces because they swivel . And they didn't look out of place once I had them on the assembled frame.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Upgrade! I have Elfa drawers from WAY BACK! I just realized they had newer casters available - I bought 4 sets just to bring my drawers up to date. There were nothing wrong with the old ones, but since they were on sale - why not???

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Let's do the twist Good wheel, rolls smooth but they twist and turn constantly and at 3", it adds a lot of extra width to the unit. I bought them to use on the x-narrow drawer unit that I was putting in a tight spot. My wheels keep wanting to turn out when I pull the unit out or push it back in and therefore get caught/bang against the stuff next to it. These are coming off and I'm looking for different wheels.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from media storage Attached the casters to an existing elfa drawer frame with drawers. Easy installation. Inserted drawer liners in the drawers and I now have a mobile media storage cart. Yay!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ok They are fine casters, but would like locks on at least two wheels and a white color option

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good addition, but no lock I wish these had a lock on one wheel; drawer unit tends to fly around on a smooth floor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Work Great! Love the way the casters make the drawers so easy to move in and out of the closet. Easy to install.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good casters We needed these to turn an old elfa file cabinet into a rolling work table. The casters are wonderfully smooth rolling and easy to install. The only thing I noticed is that the casters are larger than the casters on the other (older) elfa file cabinets that we have. That wasn't an issue for us, but if you expect the top of an elfa unit with these (newer# casters to be flush with another #older) elfa unit, you might need to replace the casters on the older unit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great wheels. Use a mallet! Once I figured out that the best way to keep the backstop pins in place on my elfa shelving was to use a tiny bit of scotch tape, the only other challenge was these casters. They have that ring around them that keeps them from going into the bracket more than a quarter inch. I banged and pushed and finally contacted customer service, who said oh yes, I needed to pound with a mallet. Which I found difficult to do since they're *wheels* and kept spinning and I didn't want to hit too hard and possibly break or crack them. I finally did it by holding the whole caster in place with my left hand and bringing the mallet down not just on the top of the wheel, but also tapping down on the edge of that plastic piece that runs through the middle. I hit harder than I wanted to but it worked. The wheels eventually go all the way in.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Warning: Casters Don't Fit Older Drawer Systems I have two older drawer frame systems and wanted to add casters. At only $10 a set, it seemed like a good investment. But the casters don't fit on my drawer frames, as the older models had different feet. Elfa tells me I have to spend an additional $38 to purchase new compatible bottom crossbars, in order to install the casters. This has gotten quite a bit more expensive than I wanted. Haven't decided yet if I will purchase the crossbars or just return the casters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have! Casters were a must when I was choosing a drawer system. These casters work very well and are easy to install in one click! The cabinet rolls around very easily, even on carpet and full of hanging files!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Elfa Casters Love having these casters on our elfa wire basket unit! I have the baskets in our pantry but it needs to sit over the entrance to our crawl space (old house), being able to move this quickly and easily means we have open access to the crawl space but didn't give up storage space. Fantastic in a home where almost everything we do is a retro-fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Move These make the Elfa Carts so easy to move. They roll on any type of floor. If you want portability this is the item to add to your cart.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product These casters are much larger and stronger than the standard casters you typically see around. If you really want longevity and smooth rolling that can carry some significant weight go for these.
Date published: 2011-09-19
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but wish they locked like the old ones I'm glad Elfa is trying to improve on their product but why they would remove the lock on the casters is a little aggravating. They do seem stronger now but they are considerably higher than the old ones and therefore wreck any past plan measurements. I wish Elfa would've offered both the old style and the new as well as made the new ones with a locking mechanism.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous Purchase We recently moved and the "old wheels" broke off the unit during the move. We had to order these wheels on-line since we don't have a Las Vegas, NV store....boo hoo. Other than paying shipping, this purchase was perfect! We are long-time advocates of ELFA and they are continually improving the product. Love, Love, Love ELFA!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better than previous casters I love the new hardier casters. They are slightly larger and much tougher than the casters previously offered by elfa. They can better withstand heavy loads and move much more easily across my carpet, which is very thick. If it weren't so much trouble to unload everything, I would replace all my old casters with the new ones. Nice upgrade, elfa!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from w/ locking system these would be perfect i'm not the strongest 115lb 20-something gal, but w/ the help of a mallet (which i purchased from this same store) these were a snap to install. i'd give these 5 stars IF they had a solid locking system so i can easily move the drawer system when cleaning the floor but otherwise keep it stationed. the system is currently resting on travertine floors.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from elfa Casters These casters don't need to be much more than functional, and they achieve that. They roll just fine. My only complaint is that fitting them into the drawer unit was quite an endeavor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice once I figured out installation Now that my casters on installed, I'm very happy with them! The instructions were rather minimalist (from my non-handyperson point of view) and the YouTube video wasn't really any better. When I put the caster stem into the hole, it kept falling out. I had noticed that the hole was fairly short in length and ended in solid plastic. Once I finally figured out that I needed to apply enough pressure to break through that plastic it worked beautifully. I do have fairly weak hands so that didn't help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big Surprise Okay, check this out. I buy a 7-rail elfa or whatever it is back in the 80s. Finally, after all these years, one of the casters finally breaks, so I order a new set for my "still perfectly good" shelving unit on wheels. Sadly, the new casters no longer fit the old design. So I get Elfa on the phone and arrange to return the casters. What do you think the guy said? "I'll send you a shipping number so you can return them"? No! He said "we're going to send you a new shelving unit to fit your new wheels, free, with no shipping charge. That's just the way we roll." WOW! There are no words for my gratitude at this outstanding customer service gesture so rarely seen anymore! Thanks Elfa!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth rolling for good cleaning! These wheels are great with my elfa frame and drawers because I can easily roll it to another area in the house if I need to vacuum or clean my carpet!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from They are pretty permanent! They roll so well. I am very pleased. But be aware, they are permanent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Improved casters that rock because they ROLL I have many decades-old elfa frames with assorted drawers. Some units have casters. for mobility. However the original casters were flawed in design in that their attachment to the frame involved an L angle which offset the weight transfer from frame to floor. That angle bent under heavy weight. - like my computer printer - and severely curtailed the very purpose of casters. It was more dragging than rolling. I noticed that the new casters eliminated the weak L angle and directed any weight straight down. I tried a set and voila! I am now gradually replacing all of the bent casters with the improved design. But note: a little on-site engineering is necessary for the new adapters to fit the old elfa frames but it's nothing a well-directed hammer and a screw driver cannot achieve. Let the good times roll!

Community Q&A

Can I put casters on 2 separate elfa drawers and still clip the together?

I have 2 Elfa drawers in my boys' room and I'm planning on putting casters on them. However i also would like to put those platinum frame clips on them to keep them together. Would that still be possible or would the 2 wheels side by side not allow them to "clip"?
Asked by: Littlemoma
Unfortunately I just discovered this morning you cannot clamp them together because the caster base on the sides of the units where they are being joined does not allow for them to put together in a 'flush' manner as at the top. However I see no reason not to clamp them together side by side and either before or after clamping together putting a set of casters on the left side of the left unit and the right side of the right unit for a total of 4 casters for the combined unit. It's just a matter of not putting them where the two units come together. Hubby will be helping take off the casters in the middle tonight! The Container Store instructions were terrific as usual but they did not mention the casters at all. In the future it would be good to mention in the instructions not putting them on the sides where the units come together. But altogether not a big issue.

How can I remove the casters on my elfa cart?

How can I remove them without damaging anything?
Asked by: bluejeannes1
The wheel and its metal stem should simply pull out from the black plastic caster adapter. To remove the square adapter, you can pull it from the frame. Or, you might use a small flat head screwdriver to create a space between the plastic and metal.

How wide are the casters? Will adding them to the bottom of my elfa narrow shelf unit make it wider than the Narrow Butcher Block Top (#190020 15")?

Asked by: ggrec
The casters are about 1-1/2'' W, and they will not impact the width of your overall solution.

How much of a height difference do the caster wheels make?

I'm trying design a space with mobile drawer units that would fit under a 30" high shelf. Will the 7 runner fit under that if the casters are added on? I know the casters themselves are 3" high but does that mean it will add 3" of height to the drawer frame?
Asked by: n8rlady
The elfa Casters add 3" to the height of an elfa Drawer Frame. So, a 29" high 7-Runner Frame would stand 32" tall with elfa Casters attached.

If I place more than 100lb on the casters, will they break or they just can’t be moved?

Asked by: Default
Our set of four elfa Casters can support an elfa drawer unit weighing up to 99 pounds. elfa Casters are not guaranteed to support or function with loads weighing in excess of 99 pounds.
