Keep in mind, weight capacity can be affected by many things like wall construction, the installation hardware and the installation process itself. Therefore, we do not have a published weight capacity of any one elfa product or solution. When installed properly and used with the elfa system of hardware, hang standards, brackets & shelves, it will support a considerable amount of evenly distributed weight such as an entire library of books, a complete entertainment system, a pantry full of food, garage equipment or a playroom full of toys & games.

We do not market weight capacities for this shelving unit. Each shelf is exceptionally strong and should withhold a large amount of weight if mounted correctly. Thank you for your question.

There is about a half inch on either side of where you hang your standards, so about 13 inches.

clarification on dimensions
Just making sure I understand- the width for all three size options is consistently 2 feet across the board, but the size varieties are for shelf DEPTH front to back? The blueprint-style drawings in the product images are kind of confusing. Would also love to see some images of the finished product of all three sizes. I have a very odd sized nook (narrow and deep) that I need super deep shelves for, and this might be perfect!
