Great desk...butI'd been looking at this desk for a while and finally bought it. It is great in so many ways...but the four metal legs on the drawer side are not smooth and I'm afraid they will scratch my hardwood floor. As well made as this desk is, I'm surprised they did not put some kind of plastic end cap on these legs, or make them flat. The large round legs have a plastic bottom so as not to scratch hardwood. I've got a rug under them now, but will probably buy chair leg protectors to put under them. Makes the desk uneven and wobbly, but better than a scratched floor!

Great Desk, just bought a second oneBought first one with draw/baskets for a craft table. Just ordered a second one fro a sewing table. Simple, good looking matched pair. The velcro for the baskets works just fine, don't be turned off by this aspect.

Very versatile desk!I've purchased a number of Elfa products from The Container Store and been very happy with them. I recently moved and needed a desk. I had originally planned on a smaller desk but liked what I read about this one -- and it was on sale.
The instructions noted that it is best to have two people put the top on the desk but I wasn't willing to wait so I did the whole thing myself. I'm almost 70 years old so that should give you some idea of the ease of assembling this.
The desk itself is very versatile. I like the mesh drawers which have plenty of space. The rounded corners of the top are much more comfortable for typing on my laptop than a regular top. The size of the top is great. I can use it for all sorts of things - regular desk, sewing table, jigsaw puzzles and so forth.
The desk is also very sturdy.
I'm totally happy and satisfied with this product!

Need high-power drill for this oneOnce again, the Container Store makes it seem like anyone can assemble something that requires special power tools. I had to go out and buy a cordless drill for this, and it STILL wasn't powerful enough to get the legs connected to the desktop. I had to ask a handyman to do it -- he luckily had a high-power drill. And it still took some work for him to do it. The legs are put on very sturdily but the mesh drawers are put on with VELCRO. Yes, that's right, you're paying 250.00 for a desk that's half velcro. The drawer stops (which they sell separately and are not cheap) are tiny plastic pieces that keep coming out. So my drawers keep sliding too far back and hitting the wall.

Great Basic DeskI got this desk for grad school after moving cross country. I love it! Easy to assemble, looks posh and very user friendly. Easily accesible storage and lots of work space.

Easy to AssembleElfa is easy to assemble, looks great, and is very functional. I have the white Elfa with the Sycamore top. It's easy to move and reconfigure to meet your current needs.
We purchased the driftwood desk and was wondering if you only screw the side with the two legs? Won't it move back and forth?

If you have the configuration above, it does wobble a bit. I am typing this from my computer on this desk and there is a slight movement. It's not a problem though. If you were using it as a craft table, I can see where it might not be the best option.

While a weight rating for our elfa Mesh Component Desk with Rounded Edge is unavailable, it has been used with great success as a sewing table many times. In fact, the writer of the product review for this item mentions its use as a sewing table explicitly.

How heavy is this?
Is everything packaged separately? I can carry the Elfa up the stairs in pieces but am concerned about how heavy the surface is, how much does it weigh?

The components of our elfa Mesh Desk are packaged separately. The Desk Top with Rounded Edge weighs 38 pounds; each of the two Desk Legs weighs 3.5 pounds; and the elfa Mesh Desk Drawers solution weighs 13.9 pounds.
