Rated 5 out of 5Â by Jacqueline Great Storage Closet!!!
Best purchase for storage. I store all of my extra coats, shawls, and even have a vertical handbag holder. I also stack my shoe boxes on top. The closet has some heavy cardboard at the top (for shaping); however the rods pretty much are the support and structure of this closet. The grey canvas is nice, durable, and can be wiped to clean. I can easily get in/out to grab a jacket/rain coat ... etc. I even place my rubber booties on the base of this closet. Love it so much, buying a 2nd closet organizer for seasonal items. Personally, I would prefer a metal rolling cart with this cover, and also a couple internal shelves above the closet rod for shoes, handbags, and seasonal scarves. Next upgrade (i.e. a deluxe model). Next one after, storage for gear (i.e. skis, rollerblades, bike gear, helmet ... etc. Grey is a neutral color. I would love to see Red, Purple, Spring Green (i.e. seasonal colors for seasonal stuff). Thank you.

This has been one of the best purchases I have ever made. So nice to have an extra place to store winter coats, jackets, etc., as well as having to store items in the "out of sight" category. Would highly recommend this product - superb Container Store item.

Purchased this item to store winter wardrobe in basement. It was very easy to assemble, held many more items than I expected. It's easy to move around our basement. Rolls well and doesn't tip over. We plan to purchase another next time we're in the store.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by JerryV Well worth the money!
This is a relatively sturdy product for the price. Obviously, higher priced garment racks will be sturdier. The cover is surprisingly well made for this item and closes completely. What the instructions need to add is that a rubber or plastic mallet is ESSENTIAL for assembling this. The metal rods need to be banged in as far as they can go to fit properly. You cannot do this easily by hand. If the rods are not banged in: 1) The whole assembly is rickety. 2) Some of the rods may go in further than others, thus making the assembly uneven and lopsided. 3) The cover will not stretch over the rods because the rod skeleton is too large for the cover. I think that many of the complaints (especially the cover not fitting) relate to the fact that the rods were not banged in all the way. I have not had problems with the base collapsing, as some others have reported but I think that the manufacturer can make these plastic parts out of metal and just charge a few bucks more.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Carol320 Terrible assembly
Had the same experience as another reviewer where the shell would NOT fit over the rack once assembled and a seam was ripped in the process. We bought 2 but will be returning one and I guess we're stuck with the defective one we assembled. Was really expecting better quality from TCS.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Jelby Couldn't assemble without breaking
Our rack must have been defective because there is no way the canvas cover would fit over the assembled frame. Husband followed the directions and blew out one of the corner seams. Thinking he must have missed something in the instructions, I took it apart and followed the directions myself and blew out 2 more of the corner seams. Would have been easier to burn a $50 bill.

It was good for 4 months with normal load. The plastic holder on the bottom broken on the 5th month. I had to get a replacement. No more plastic frame.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by JanetM Plastic braces break when moved
I purchased 2 of these to hold my children's old clothes until I could get a garage sale together. This past weekend I started pulling out the old clothes and toys. I moved these "closets" from my unfinished bsmt #concrete floor# to my finished basement #carpet#. As there are casters on the bottom of the unit, I assumed moving it wouldn't be a problem because the unit was designed to be moved. However, the side-to-side movement caused the bottom plastic braces to break. As a side note, the top plastic braces were deformed from the weight of the clothes #kids clothes#. Because the bottom braces broke and the top braces were deformed, I think the solution to a movable wardrobe is all metal parts #poles and braces#. If you want a wardrobe that isn't going to be moved, then this might work for you. But if you plan to move it, be forewarned - it isn't strong enough to take the force.

I bought one of these a few months ago and loved it so much I just bought another. When I brought it home and went to put it together, I noticed a piece was broken. Boxed it all back up and exchanged it for a new one. While my husband was putting the new one together, the zipper snapped. So I now have a new covered clothes closet that does not zip correctly.

Rated 2 out of 5Â by JimboClosets Just not robust....
This rack works for all all lightweight applications. I have three of them in my basement. The ones I use for winter shirts & a few sweaters work great. I gave one my wife used for largess sweaters & some winter coats & the side plastic pieces simply sagged in a permanent way until the closet literally collapsed on itself. Allow me to say, it was not even packed very full. This rack needs to have a low weight limit placed on it. Seeing that most folks will put some heavier winter items in it.... It's worthless for them. Cheap price = lightweight capabilities.... Buyer beware.

 by LovetoOrganizeMore Plastic supports break
I purchased this garment rack 9 months ago for extra hanging space in a new apartment that had small closets. I was surprised by how expensive garment racks were, so I opted for this one based on the price and the fact that it was covered. I planned to use it for out-of-season clothes. I don't recall it being difficult to assemble, but I was disappointed that the top is supported only by a piece of cardboard to make the fabric cover stay flat. The supports for the hanging rod are curved, and they do not support the cover top or the cardboard. Hence, if you put anything (even extremely light things) on top of the covered rack, the cardboard will sag and look bad). But that wasn't a big deal, and the rack worked well until last week.
We put our winter sweaters and some blazers (no heavy outer coats) on the rack in April. The rack was full, but not stuffed. When we came home from a two-week vacation last weekend (mid-June), the hanging rod was tilted down and the plastic support on the right was totally deformed (see photo). The left plastic support was bending slightly, but not like the right one. There didn't seem to be a weight limit in the Container Store description, and I don't remember if there was one noted on the box or in the instructions that came with the rack.
In any case, I am disappointed that it broke and wanted to warn others to only get this if you will use it for lighter items. I should have known that you can't get a good garment rack with a cover for $50.

I have a few of these already which I had bought in the store. I ordered this online and noticed when I put together it was harder than the other ones and one of the seams ripped. It was also missing a part to make the casters stay secured. I called and they offered to send a replacement one free of charge right away. I can keep this one as well. That is what I call good customer service.

Decades ago I owned several of a similar type of closet (blue & a bit larger) but made by a different manufacturer. Those closets lasted for years (at least 1 decade) but eventually wore out, having taken a beating from many, seasonal clothing change. I searched for years but never quite found the right quality or style [I truly *am* the kiss of death to anything worth buying...] . I was thrilled to find these at the Container Store. Having had experience assenbling these types of "closets" I know to be very careful. I bought two of these and like the others have said mine tore in the same spot - at the bottom end of the zipper. I tried to repair the small tear but it's impossible - the rip climbs up the the length of the zipper each time it's moved and unzipped. Very disappointing. I checked that I'd "recommend to a friend " (I'm evil) only because they are sturdy, constructed from synthetic materials makes it water resistant and also less attractive to insects than the natural cloth type. They are also one-person assembly-able, if necessary.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by cmb117 Sturdy Clothes Closet
I was looking for a clothing rack for my husband's suits, my semi-formal dresses, and other items that we needed to get out of our guest room closet before it became a baby's closet (organized by ELFA). I didn't want to spend a lot of money, since it was going to be kept in our storage unit, but wanted something that was sturdy and wasn't going to fall over.
So far, this has been a great purchase and has been not only storing our clothes, but has been protecting them from the elements of a non-climate-controlled storage unit. It is sturdy and was fairly easy to put together. As another reviewer mentioned, getting the outside case over the poles was a bit of a struggle and I did end up ripping the outside a bit, but it is nothing major. I built it on my own without a problem and I was 8 months pregnant at the time. I'm sure if I had asked for help I wouldn't have had a problem with it ripping. We are very happy with our purchase and it is serving our need well!

Rated 3 out of 5Â by Lvgardengirl Bought this after reading all reviews. It's fine for what I need...extra storage. Easy to assemble until the end.......couldn't get top to stretch far enough over ......needed just a tag more material ....when started to push top down, it started to rip!
Was doing this alone so far but called a friend & he came over ....laid it on bed & started at the top....got that on then proceeded to finish.
it's fine......a little duct tape (matches the grey) & it's working just fine for what I need.
Probably needs to say...need 2 people to assemble.

I found this wardrobe to hold more than expected - principally men's shirts. I have been using it for over a month mostly every day and have found it stable & sturdy.
I assembled it myself in about 10 minutes but I am over 6' tall. It would be much easier with a helper.

Without a real closet, we needed a place to hold our clothes. We purchased the grey portable closet to handle the job and it really looks nice in the room. We use it to hold most of my wife's clothes. It is sturdy enough for clothes but will not withstand any heavy AV equipment above it. The viewing plastic is a nice feature to allow review of clothes without opening. Remember that item 7 is pictured in #7 of the instructions, a support ABOVE the clothes.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Torquer Flimsy product
Waste of money. It can only hold doll's clothing. Because the support is plastic, it bent from the weight of normal human clothes. Plus, it was a hassle to put together. The poles didn't fit into the holes easily. And you need at least 2 people to help. I couldn't return it, but ended up getting the commercial garment rack...$20 more but much better product. I wanted to cover, but not worth the trouble.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by omaquilter I now have 2
The first Grey Clothes Closet did collapse (vertical metal bar failed) and was replaced. I now have a second one and both are functioning well. I would have preferred a larger, sturdier closet, but The Container Store does not have an efficient cover like the one on this model. It IS a challenge to put together--using a block of wood and hammer to assemble the joined vertical bars with plastic top and bottom pieces is the secret!

This product is not sturdy at all! I never had the chance to completely put it together. The polls are metal and the frame is cheap plastic. As soon as I inserted the metal into the plastic it cracked.
I went back and bought a fold-away clothes rack and 2 jumbo hanging bags instead. I'm satisfied with my second purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by arw215 Very Poor Construction
I just bought a month ago and it is already broken. The plastic brackets could not support the weight of the clothes. It is a certain size and it should be able to support the weight of clothes that fit in it. It wasn't even full. It also was very difficult to put together. It was clearly flimsy, so I'm not surprised it didn't last long, but I expected it to at least last a year, not just a month.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Ecm50 Good off season storage
I needed to get my winter clothes all in one place. Bought 3 of these and was happy with them and very organized. The racks are incredibly easy to put together if you follow the instructions EXACTLY. By the third one, I was able to put together in about 6 minutes. Careful pulling on the zippered sleeve. The racks roll fine if not over loaded.
