Good use of vertical spaceLove this; bought two of them for shoes. Also use them for other items, such as folded sweaters, etc. Very well constructed. They are still clean, but if they start to look dirty will use a rug cleaner. Love the Container Store.

Master Closet RevampI usually throw all my flats in a basket but that method wasn't the best and I didn't like when they got scuffed. So I saw this on their website and liked how the picture displayed it. So I bought one for all my flats and I love that they each have their own space and it's all visible. Although the draw back I saw was that sneakers and heels couldn't fit in there that well, so I hope that helps give you some insight.

Great Space Saver!I live in a small, older bungalow and the closets are not as roomy as I would like so I have had to get creative. This shoe organizer is great and takes up very little room and it got all my ballet flats off the floor which allowed more room for my bigger shoes. Great purchase for the money!

Small compatmentsI really like this organiser, but be aware that the compartments are rather small so you might not be able to fit those larger sneakers depending on your shoe size. It is very well constructed and not too large. I would recommend this.

great for small shoesI bought this for my own closet - I wear a men's size 12 and the compartments are a little too snug to fit most of my shoes. I can smash them in there, but it crushes the shoes and changes the shape of the compartments and the organizer

Compartments too smallI used to have an over the door shoe organizer, but didn't like the look of the hooks over the door, so I decided to try this hanging shoe organizer. I was able to fill all ten compartments with my smallest shoes (flats, sandals, and a couple of kitten heels), but most of my shoes would never fit into these tiny compartments. I had to squeeze my chunkier loafers and my kitten heels in there. I'm glad I only bought one. I intend to keep it, but need to find a different way to organize all my other shoes. This organizer really only works for small women's shoes.

Not Just For Shoes!I already have two of these for shoes, but I bought one more for my winter gloves, hats, scarves, etc. It works beautifully and now I don't have to scrounge around on the coat closet shelf to find just the right scarf or pair of gloves!

Handy HelperGot this for my daughter's room (someone who hates to be organized and can never find anything in her disastrous room) and she uses it every day. The compartments are smaller than they seem in the photo so some shoes had to be put one in a slot, but she is using it and can find her shoes now!

not just for shoesI got this for shoes, but ended up using it to organize scarves, tights, gloves and such. I do modeling work, and this lets me put all my accessories in nice, neat compartments and hang it up at the photo shoot. Since the hanging bag is flexible, it folds up nicely and holds items that are wider than a standard shoe box.
I have two of the rotating shoe racks from here that I use for my flats and sandals, and some of the shoe boxes as well. Never enough shoes, never enough space for them!

Love my shoesBeing a shoe fanatic, I normally have shoes all over the place & cannot find the match. This organizer is perfect for someone like me. Transformed my closetNot only is this a beautiful product but it makes putting my shoes away really easy. Plus, it makes my closet look gorgeous!
Also, it helps you with keeping only the shoes you absolutely love! Give your unwanted shoes to goodwill, have a garage sale or simply throw them away and start out fresh. It can also give you a reason to buy a new pair of shoes. :)- if you're a shoe lover like me. :)

Much better than a laundry basketI used to keep my shoes in a laundry basket at the bottom of my closet. Now, I can see all of my shoes, I avoid playing hide and seek for the second shoe, and my shoes don't get smashed under other pairs. I bought a Container Store boot box for my boots to keep them in better shape and saved a lot of space, too!

Is it coated with plastic or must I wipe off my shoes before inserting?
My shoes aren't muddy, but they're not perfectly clean. I see the beautiful off-white canvas eventually looking dirty or dingy over time. Or is this another one of your products that ends up in the landfill after 5-10 years?

It's not coated with plastic. Yes, wiping wet, muddy shoes would be helpful. Regular "dirt" will come off with a brush.

Washable?
Has anyone tried washing this? It's quite dirty from storing shoes, but I'm concerned that the reinforcements at the top and in each shelf are cardboard and won't stand up to a machine wash. Anyone tried it?

Iit will shrink if put in machine. Never in dryer. The other answers are the way to go. I have 2 of the canvas ones and love them for shoes and small items in my closet. Very well constructed.
