Holes drilled so raw sides are exposed on topThis shoe stacker was the perfect size for the intended space in my closet. All other shoe cabinets were too big to fit. I read some of the reviews about the holes being drilled wrong on the long side boards. I took a chance and purchased anyway. This proved true in the unit I received. The holes are drilled so that the raw, unfinished sides are exposed on the top. For the price, I recommend the purchase. If you are worried about aesthetics, beware this product will require some paint or laminate strips to make it look good.

TAKE A GOOD LOOK ONCE UNPACKAGEDI bought two of these and the first one I assembled didn't have the pre-made holes bored all the way through. That made the screws go in crooked while putting it together which cracked the unit in two places.
I only noticed that was the issue when I began to assemble the second unit because it had holes that went all the through and went together without a hitch. The Container Store made the situation right so I have no issue with them. The unit is still usable, just less visibly appealing. These products, like most everything, are mass produced so there is bound to be a bag egg here and there.
The biggest thing is a company's customer service in handling that issue and The Container Store did a great job. Overall I do recommend the unit but just give it a good once over when you take it out of the box. The pre drilled holes for the two sides should go all the way through. Then they match up with the holes for attaching the shelves.

Great as a Mail Sorter!Although this is technically a shoe rack, we bought it to sort our family mail. It is working perfectly. Most products advertised as mail sorters are too narrow or small or crowded.

For shoes and more! This would also wok on a closet shelf to acomodate dishes, linens, candles, etc.
Once together it is sturdy and attractive.
A little hard to screw into the heavy particle board. If you have power tools it would help but it is not a requirement.
Great price for doubling your space.
We are using for shoes, but I keep thinking of all kinds of places to put this to use.

Horrible Quality Control - Junk! This is one of the worst manufactured and quality controlled pieces of furniture I've ever seen. Several of the drilled ones are insufficiently deep or at weird angles. Don't waste your money on this.

shelves are not as advertisedI didn't have high expectations as they are very inexpensive. The shelves are low quality, the holes aren't distinct, and the shelve pieces are a bit shifted. The biggest issue is that they aren't as advertised online or shown in store. The bottom and second shelf are so short you can barely fit a short sneaker. Therefore, you can only fit 3-4 tall shoes (heels and boots) on the top shelf and the rest must be very very short. If you buy 2 shelves and place them on top of each other, you have the same issue. This shelf is not ideal for storage and for holding a variety of shoes. I would not recommend.

So disappointedWas so excited to find these shoe shelves, only to find out that they can’t hold any of my heels or even some of my flat sneakers. The width and height are just too short. I bought 3, such a waste. The photo is very deceptive.

Perfect for the role it is madeThe shoe rack is perfect for that purpose. Good quality that will last a long time.
Things to consider:
A. It is not a weight bearing piece. You won't be able to stack anything but shoes or light shoe boxes on it.
B. It stacks well on top of like shelving pieces, but anything higher than 2 units would need to be secured to a wall.
C. The perfect shoe size for more than 3 pairs per shelf is men's 8 or women's 10

Just what my son was looking forMy son lives in an apartment on the second floor with a roommate and the front entryway is very small and thus shoes get piled up by the door. This is a problem in winter with the winter boots and sneakers near the doorway due to not wanting to track snow into the apartment. However, with this shoe rack, the shoes remain out of the way and allow the front door to open and close without trouble.

Good purchase but...I really like the 2-shelf shoe stacker, good quality, easy to assemble and perfect for men shoes which are flat.
However, for women shoes it is different because high heels only fit on the top shelf which means I cannot stack another 2-shelf shoe stacker on top of the previous one. The separation between shelves should be a little bit bigger so high heels could fit in any shelf. Other than that, I would recommend the product.

Works but has issuesI bought 2 of these because they fit perfectly side by side in my space in the closet. I read all the reviews and saw lots of issues with missing parts etc.
I didn't experience any missing parts, but the construction of this product is lacking. It's simply particle board with holes and screws. Since it's just for shoes, that's good enough since it won't be carrying any real load.
My real issue is with the cover caps included. They are supposed to press into the screw heads and cover them for appearance. Try as I might, these caps WILL NOT STAY ON. They fall off as soon as you bump the shelf. I'll need to get some silicone sealant to make them stick.

Great for storage -- Could be classierI purchased these for storage of 14x14 project cases, and they work extremely well. I can get 2 full size and 2 thinner cases on each shelf. They were also easy to put together. My only criticism is that the plastic buttons to cover the screws are white, and on the natural shelves, it makes them look like they are held together with thumbtacks. Since I have these out in the open and not buried in a closet, they do look a bit tacky.

Manufacturing DefectsI bought three of these (they're a great size and very sturdy!)
but one of the three sets has the predrilled holes in the wrong side of the board which leaves the exposed MDF/particle board exposed.)
Because of the sturdy materials they're a little heavy so I'm not keen on bringing for my 5th floor walk up, lugging it to the store only to bring back another - I've already brought three home!

Disappointing...Everything I've ordered from CS has been great and easy to assemble...until now. I had so much trouble assembling what looked to be a simple storage unit. I'm baffled that I'm still unable to get the screws in properly/all the way, which is why I think it won't stand properly. (It was so difficult to screw in that I have a large blister on my thumb from the force of the screwdriver.) On the plus side, this storage unit is the perfect size for the bottom of a closet in my apartment. I plan to order another unit in the hopes that this was just a fluke - crossing my fingers!

Love this shelfI love this shelf, I'm not using this for shoes, I am using it for small bins & this is placed on my craft table which is an old dining room table. It works great & is the perfect size. I wish I would have bought another one when I had the chance at the store.

Meets My NeedsThe look of this shoe shelf is just what I was looking for and is perfect for my little apartment. Quality wise, it's not the best. You basically get what you pay for. I got the white one and the ends peeled a little bit, but it's no big deal. Ensembling this shoe shelf was easy. There are little covers to cover the nails so that they're not showing. Overall, I'm satisfied.

Missing hardware; misleading product description.Let me start by saying I LOVE THE CONTAINER STORE. I am a professional organizer, and TCS is my go to for all of my clients' needs.
That said, this product is the most disappointing purchase I've made from them in the last decade. I'm just relieved I bought it for use in my own home and not in a client's home, so that I was saved the embarrassment.
The shelves are super easy to assemble... if all of the screws are included. I bought 2 shelving units. One of the boxes was missing the last of the 16 screws, the other box was missing 7 of them. 7! Luckily I had similarly sized screws on hand at home and was able to sub them in (fingers crossed that the integrity of the shelves is not compromised). They seem pretty sturdy, all things considered.
The product description says you can fit 16 pairs of women's shoes per unit.... that is, if all your shoes are flats, and you stack shoes on top of each other (or I guess potentially use the shoe stackers that TCS has), which would mean 3 pairs of women's shoes per shelf including using the top as a shelf and the floor underneath the lowest shelf... and even then, that's only 15 pairs... but who's counting (me!)?
The product description also says you can fit 9 pairs of men's shoes per unit. It's almost impossible, unless you're talking about Toms or Converse or some other brand that would actually stack in the allotted shelf space. Even if you alternate the shoes toe to heel, you can't fit 2 pairs on one shelf.
See attached photo for context. Hope this feedback was helpful.

Dont waste your money!I was looking for a low--cost option for shoe storage and have had good results from the Container Store in the past. Not with this product. The fiberboard disintegrated as I tried to assemble mostly because the pre-drilled holes were misplaced, not deep enough and at an angle so the screw protruded through the surface causing it to crack apart. I threw the product away. Very disappointing and completely out of character for this vendor.

Simple and HorribleI'm sure with the right materials this would be a nice little shoe shelf but I only received part of the assembly instructions, missing parts, and subpar shelves that wouldn't hold the screws provided. Beware purchasing and receiving a kit with missing parts.

Pretty Good BuyI ordered two of these shelves. They sure helped me get my closet organized - actually freed up about 8 feet of shelf space for me. Just note, that 'some assembly is required' - And make sure you have the painted sides to the outside. I got one put together and realized that I have one wrong side out but not a big deal.

How do these stack? Are they secure or when stacked are they wobbly?
