Good idea, poor designThis took upwards of an hour to assemble, and once it was all put together, the whole rack was bending into a spiral. I tried to put shoes on it thinking the weight would level the bend, but the pulling of the one side was too much and it tore the hook off of the door (tearing the paint on my doorframe in the process). I love the container store, but this product was a big miss.

Do not recommend for adult shoesI was very excited to find this over the door shoe rack for my closet. However, I was very disappointed with this purchase. First of all, I received a box that was clearly opened and previously assembled before. The screws were placed in ziplock bags and interior packaging was already removed. After checking that nothing was missing, I assembled the shoe rack to find out that the shoes barely fit on the rack. Too much of they shoe (size 8 in women’s) hangs off the rack making it easy to fall off. I can’t imagine any men’s shoes would fit on the rack. Also the width is strange as it is just slightly not wide enough to fit 3 pairs of shoes but way too much room for 2 pairs of shoes. I really wanted to like this product but unfortunately I am disappointed and would not recommend it.

Do NOT buyAfter an extensive amount of time used to put this product together, it was not easy to put together and some of the screws did not fit in the racks. Once it was finally put together it was crooked, and did not lay flush against the door. Biggest waste of money

Shelves are crooked and too shallowI tried installing this shoe rack the same day after I picked up from the store. The shelves are crooked themselves and warped the whole rack. After installing just half of the rack, I tried hanging it over my door and the whole rack jutted about 2" from the door. In other words, only one side was flush with the door. My size 7 shoes also just barely fit on the shelves and were almost falling off. I was really looking forward to using this product but I cannot recommend it in the slightest.

Great shoe rackI ordered this because in the place we just moved to the house was built in 1900 and the closet and storage is very minimal, like not much at all. I had nowhere to put my shoes. I bought it because it could also be wall mounted in case it wouldn't fit over the door,
and it was easy to put together and hang. I have 29 pairs of shoes including boots on it right now and still room for more!

Likes it...butI wish you could buy the over the door hooks separately. One of mine has broken and I now have to look for an alternative and I’ve only had this a few months. I also wish it were a bit wider sometimes it hard to get 3 pairs of shoes in each row.

Shoes hang slightly but its worth it!This is by far the best shoe organizer I've ever found. Your shoes don't fit on the whole way but gravity keeps them on if you hang up the rack right. It's so easy to grab your shoes and go and put them back at the end of the day. I love it!

Bad purchaseI purchased this for my shoes, I only wear a 8.5/9 women's shoe and they do not fit - there is not enough depth.
The container store needs to state this in the description.

Kid SizedNailed this rack to a wall, not hung over a door. The depth of the outer metal rod to the wall is too small for adult shoes. And the width of each rack doesn’t fit 3 pairs all the way across... I had to get creative because I wasn’t going to go through the hassle of taking it apart to return it.
I wear a size 8 in women’s shoes.

UselessThis looked like exactly what I wanted but it is terrible. It is not deep enough to hold an adult shoe of any kind. I have size 9 feet and the shoes won’t stay on it, it’s half as deep as it needs to be. It will be going back. I wish I had read reviews first and saved myself the trouble of putting it together. Now I have to uninstall it. Strongly don’t recommend except to those with unusually small feet!!!!!

Not wide enoughUnless you have tiny feet, you won't consistently get three pairs of shoes across. Three pairs of size 9.5 Tom's flats will fit, but not boots or more structured shoes.

OkDidn’t have room in our closet for our shoes. I thought this would be a good alternative to a traditional shoe rack. A lot of my women’s size 7 shoes don’t fit, my work boots don’t fit, and my husbands shoes don’t fit. Might work for a child’s room, but not appropriate for an adult.

Over the door brackets are poor qualityI was very excited for this product because it holds so many shoes. I’ve now had this for less than 2 months and the over the door brackets are bent. I tried to bend them back, but it is not working and I think I’m going to have to take this down and throw it away. Don’t spend the money, it doesn’t last.

DisappointedVery disappointed, not even after 3 months the rack is falling. I have it hung over the door to save space, the bracket bent and hanging loose. I barely have any shoes on it. Not good quality.
It just seemed so practical, don’t buy:(

DO NOT BUYThis is the biggest waste of money ever. This completely broke after only two days on the door. Might work mounted to a wall but that negates the purpose when trying to organize shoes in a small space. What a scam.

Don’t get itIt says it fits most doors and it does not. Also it barely fits a women’s size 6.5 shoe and definitely does not fit my husbands 11 size shoe. It does not accommodate boots (low shaft boots) and it does not belong on the inside of the door. Who wants to see the clutter of shoes on the outside of a closet door? (No one) not very efficient. I really wanted an over the door shoe holder but this takes up way too much space hence defeating the purpose of having more space in the closet. Most closets are only 2 feet deep. I don’t who designed this. I just opted for their mesh stackable shoe shelves.

Wall Mount OnlyI moved into a new house 2 months ago and bought this over the door shoe rack to help store part of my large shoe collection. I placed this over the door in our bedroom and was really pleased with it at first, but after only 2 months one of the brackets has bent and broken. The rack isn't even completely full, so it's not as if it is breaking due to excessive weight. I don't have room to mount this to a wall so I guess I am out $40 and in search of a new storage solution. I recommend purchasing this item only if you are planning to mount it to a wall.

Only use if bracing to the wallI drove over an hour and a half to the container store to purchase this product so I could install same day. I get home and begin to put shoes on the rack ( not heavy shoes just sandals and tennis shoes) and the door hooks bent and are now unusable. I’m unable to return it because the store is an hour and a half away and now I am out 40$ . I am very disappointed.

Broke After 1 Year of UseWe had this shoe rack for about a year before the metal frame that hooks over the door failed. The rack was only about 3/4 full and was not overly heavy. The frame will now not stay in place.

3 years later, no regretsI’ve had this shoe rack for close to three years living in a condo with limited storage. This over the door was the perfect solution. I’m giving 4 stars because now I’m moving and after taking the rack down, there are scuff marks all over the door from the toe of my shoes (and I don’t know how to remove them). I wear a women’s 7.5. It’d be great if it was deeper, or had a toe guard or something.
Other than that, it’s well constructed and very sturdy.

Good Set-Up, Needs Adjustment for Larger FootwearOverall the set-up for this item was not difficult. However, the hardware screws were easily stripped if you are not careful. The spaces are great if you have small, short, or narrow footwear. There need to be more holes to adjust for boots or larger shoes. You can still utilize the spaces for boots and the like, but you need to fold down the ankle end in order for it to fit. The hardware for the door attachment is not strong and bends too easily. In addition, the attachment hardware barely stabilizes the shoe tree frame. Suggest that design adjustments be forthcoming for a wider shoe audience with a variety of shoe wear.

Can't Hold Shoes (it's single purpose)I bought this last week thinking this would be a great discrete place to put my wife's and my shoes. It was easy to install and then I started to store some of my shoes on it. Immediately, you could see the heels hung off quite a bit, and the shoes didn't feel stable at all. After closing the door, you could just hear a bunch of pair of shoes falling off the hanger. After trying this a couple times, you could tell that this is not going to work as intended. It definitely needs to be a little deeper to hold the shoes...
I wish this wasn't the case. I really wanted to like this thing.

Poor qualityI bought this rack earlier today. First off it was difficult to put together by myself. Second off, it’s not deep enough for some of my shoes (mostly my heels) so that defeated the purposes of getting a 36 shoe rack. Thirdly, after putting it together and placing my shoes on it (maybe 25 pairs, a mix of sandals and sneakers), it starts falling apart about 2 hours later!!!! I try to close my door and the brackets to hang it on my door have completely bent and closing the door has now pushed the rack off my door and my shoes are now in a pile on my floor. Now I am taking it apart and desperately trying to shove it back in the box to return it tomorrow. So disappointed.

Good DIY ProjectOver the door is a great place to store shoes--handy, neat, and not a tripping hazard!
Test fit for width to avoid interfering with door handle and to minimize awkward placement if door surface not smooth, e.g., paneled, etc. MAKE SURE LADDER/STEPSTOOL IS SAFE!
Verify all pieces present and read instructions several times before starting. Keep instructions handy at all times--many parts and some look very similar!
Assemble snugly but leave a bit loose to allow for any "wiggle to fit" instances. When completed, fasten rack to door with over and under the door clips. Project can be done by one, but a helper is useful when attaching over and under door clips. Tighten all screws for security. NOTE: Attach Allen wrench to rack in case it's needed later.

Best organizerBest organizer for my shoes. I have limited space and this organizer worked out great! Easy to put together too.
Will this work for men's shoes? If so, still 36 pair?
Asked by: KennyC
Addendum to my previous answer: If you were to mount the bars on, say, a 3" deep rail or other stand-off you'd then get enough depth for men's shoes. That would just move the shelves out to support the shoes better, but wouldn't take up any extra space.

Wall mounted
Is everything included in order to wall mount the shoe rack or does it need to be purchased separately?
Asked by: jrsyshr
Works great on wall. Very narrow rack and doesn't take up much width in my closet. For ease of assembly I recommend putting the poles together and mounting the top and bottom shelf then mounting it on the wall. The other shelves are much easier to install once the rack is on the wall. I used ratcheted screwdriver and bit rather than the tool that came with the parts.

Most of my Daughter's shoes are flats and flip flops. Is this a good solution?
Most of my Daughter's shoes are flats and flip flops. Is this a good solution? It seems without a heel, they may continually slip off. She is planning to take this to college and use in a dorm room. I don't want her to have lots of issues with it. Please advise. Thanks!
Asked by: KimmyT
Yes I have about 7 pairs of flats and sandals. I put three sandals together by putting one through the top of the other to maximize space and I put the flats on top of each other.
