does the over the door hook scratch the existing wood door or frame? is it hard to close he door because of the attachment?

No, the Elfa Utility Over the Door Rack Solution does not have to be used over the door it can be mounted to the door. The wall-mounting hardware is sold separately.

I have two of these systems. I just moved into a new home and the doors are much taller. Is there a taller door extender available?
The main frame is now too short, I now have 8 foot doors so they cannot be used. Unless there is a way to extend the main frame.

The main frame or spine of an Elfa Door & Wall Rack is the Elfa Mounted Standard. Elfa Mounted Standards cannot be extended, but they can be replaced. For an 8' door, a 94-5/16" Elfa Mounted Standard is recommended.

Each basket has two built in hooks in the back that slide into the track that you install on the door. You just slide up to remove each basket to then place anywhere on the track that works for you.

The internal height of the elfa utility Large Mesh Basket Platinum is 5-3/8" with an internal depth of 5-1/4". You can store slim containers of laundry detergent, like our The Laundress 33.3 oz.
