Would not recommendI’m not sure who is putting these shelving units together, however they are anything but easy to assemble. I received two sets of instructions, both in languages other than English, so good luck putting it together by the poor visuals alone. The pieces that are supposed to snap together and hold the shelf in place don’t stay together, and the shelf just falls. I had such high hopes for this product, and now it’s sitting in the box it came in, unusable.

Love this ShelvingThis was my second purchase of the InterMetro 4-Shelf Starter Unit. In addition I have bought one additional shelf each time as I feel I get more storage on the shelving as some things are smaller in height than others. These units are good looking, very sturdy and easy to assemble even for me, an 80-year old woman who likes things neat and organized. I highly recommend them. I live an hour away from TCS. I ordered and paid online, drove to the store, TCS employees loaded it in my trunk and I was good to go.

Fully customizableI love that this unit lets you customize your shelf in 1in increments. It allows you to really adjust it to whatever you want and use it in whatever way is needed now and then change it if another type of space is needed. I perused it to make a clothing rack and shelf for an extra space I needed to turn into a bedroom. It worked out so well I had to get another one! I only used 3 of the 4 shelves on one and added it to the other shelf for added storage. When I no loner ness to use this as such, it will make a great storage rack for the garage or even a little pantry!

Great, sturdy storage, event on carpetWe purchased 2 for added shelving in a large closet. I was a little concerned about how sturdy these would be on carpet, but they are great! Shelves are nice and wide/deep so really practical, plus you can hang things off of them as needed. And we got them on sale so an added plus!

What cramp space?The best money spent, this really is a space saver and storage maven. Very happy customerI bought this shelving unit as a temporary fix for the kitchen in my new home with very little cabinet space. It was very easy to assemble. It is so sturdy and well made that I have absolutely no hesitations about using it to store large, heavy items in my garage after I have my kitchen remodeled. Sturdy & easy to assembleIf you have two people it will take about 20 minutes following the instruction sheet to put it up in the garage. The double and single guides on the rods really help to adjust the positions for the shelves.

Will buy again when I need more.I currently have a storage unit that needed some help becoming efficient so that I could get to everything in the storage unit without stacking and un-stacking everything. These shelves went together quickly and easily, are very sturdy, and turned my storage unit into an organizer's dream. I can now get to everything in my storage unit within seconds vs. spending time stacking and un-stacking items. If needed, I will buy more of these shelves in the future.

Love, love, love Metro Kitchen ShelvingBought two Metro Kitchen units to create a kitchen pantry in a home with limited kitchen storage. They are compact and sturdy, nice to look at and they hold a ton of food/appliance/cooking items - from a microwave oven to spice racks, bulk purchases and Costco-style cases of food items. Can also add hooks for pots and pans. Gives a nice urban feel to the kitchen.
Assembly is easy. All you need is a rubber mallet. No screws!

Perfect Solution!My owner's closet was a mess. I was using stacked plastic tubs for storage and it seemed that, whatever I needed was always in the bottom tub. It was a nightmare! These shelves fit perfectly in my double closet and everything is easy to see and to reach....a perfect solution. I'm now thinking of getting these for my basement. I purchased an extra basket shelf for sheets and a shelf liner was also very useful.

Sturdy organizerWe moved to a smaller apartment and this place does not have much storage space. In order to better utilize our floor space, it's a must to go verticle. Since we have a lot of belongings in the moving boxes still (and yes, they are heavy), this shelves is durable enough to hold all our books, extra kitchen stuff (plates, bowls, mugs), and so on. We ended up purchase 4 set of special offer units and put them against a wall. Because of this change, our boxes are well-organized. Most importantly, our home is not cluttered with moving boxes and we have gained a lot more floor space to entertain. This set is not cheap but the quality is good. If you are looking for a shelving which can hold your heavy items, you won't go wrong with this unit. For the return of investment, it definitely worth the money as we know these 4 sets will last and go to next home with us.

Beverage and Mailing StationWanting to consolidate cases of beverages in our garage, this shelf works wonderfully! The sturdy construction allows for large amounts of weight, rather than a flimsy plastic shelf system. It does take an extra set of hands to put the first shelf one, but once set in place, very easy to adjust the rest of the shelves.
On the right top shelf, I added a Large 4-Sort Divider (purchased at The Container Store) to tame shipping boxes of various sizes. The divider is zip tied to the wire shelf for stability.
Can the Container Store cut the posts in the InterMetro Silver Heavy-Duty 4-Tier Shelving Unit be cut to a custom height?

With a proper metal chop saw I’m sure you *could* cut them. I don’t think I would recommend it though. Unless you save the top plastic cap to keep debris and moisture from getting inside after.

Yes. Absolutely. These Intermetro shelves are different from just a generic metal shelving unit from any big box store. And as far as I know the Intermetro units are only available at the container store. The gauge of the steel is different too from what you may get similar looking but not the same brand from other retailers - I learned this by talking to the store manager and an associate.

You select the level at which the shelf is set - so it can be as high or as low as you want to accommodate taller or shorter items.
