Nice and portableI purchased this product two weeks ago, and it was just as easy to set up as the longer ones a few years ago. My problem was very simple, the longer shelves by the same brand were too long for the space I needed them for. I already had the poles for them, I just needed to switch the long shelves, stick them on the poles/legs and I was done.

4 hands....The assembled product is outstanding. Putting it together is a bit trickier than it may seem upon first impression. While not mentally challenging, holding the 4 poles in coordinated vertical alignment while slipping the rather substantial and unwieldy shelves in place can be. A second person could be helpful holding and steadying the unit as it goes together.

Very Practical 3 Tier ShelfVery good quality materials. We purchased the 3 tier shelf and added wheels. It is very sturdy. The wheels lock for stability. We are using the shelf in a storage room. Unlike many of the reviews, we found the assembly instructions to be reasonably straightforward. Directions can always be better, depending on one's spatial relations ability. The most challenging assembly requirement for us involved the black plastic braces/holders for the shelves. You have to pay attention to the pictures to notice that those black pieces are wider at one end. Be sure to put the wider end as shown in the picture.

A sturdy cart with many usesThis is a heavy duty, sturdy cart. The salesman made it look simple enough to assemble with his connector demo, but it took until the 2nd shelf to really get the hang of it. The 18 x 48"shelves are heavy and it's quite awkward for one person working alone with 80" poles. And I used 6 shelves. Having two people would make it quite easy. It's a bit tricky to get shelves to lock properly on to the connectors; they tend to slide, causing the shelf to drop below horizontal.It's solid and can hold quite a bit of weight. I liked it so much, I bought another 36" height one with one basket shelf. Much easier with this height. Should have assembled this one 1st. I was pleased with the final product. A little expensive, but it'll last forever.

One little catch--bin feet & linersIntermetro shelving is amazing, fantastic. But many plastic bins, including CS's sweater bins, etc. have small plastic feet. These keep bins neatly stacked--no sliding around & that's why you need those Metro clear shelf liners: to keep those tiny bin feet from catching in the open shelf wiring. I loaded my shelves & found I was arm wresting bins w/ their feet stuck in wire shelf. To plan shelf spacing, add the little bin feet to your calculation. Pull the bin foot forward so it clears the shelf's front support wire & any bin feet above or clears the next shelf's lower wire. Then pick where to clip on your shelves. Plus a shelf is 1-1/4", not 1". Count that 1/4"!

Long Life, Sturdy and PortableI've had the basic shelving system, with 4 shelves for many years, and knew that I needed more shelves with less stacking within the shelves (unit is over 60" high), so I bought 3 additional shelves. Perfect! We use it as a pantry within our office.

Beautiful and Useful ShelvesMy wife and I purchased this shelf (48 inch wide) to build an in-the-house storage unit for the room that has become the "office" in our home. The nice silver finish looks great and keeps the unit from looking like it belongs in the garage. The shelves are very sturdy, and ours are loaded with significant weights. We are delighted with the shelf unit, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for very utilitarian yet attractive shelving units.

Love the Whole Shelving SystemI purchased the InterMetro shelving unit to put all of our large appliances on. We set it up in the garage with the canvas cover to keep the dust off. It holds everything we wanted it to, plus some. FANTASTIC! I like that I could purchase an extra shelf because some of the appliances aren't very tall, and I didn't want to waste one inch of space. Also, it's very sturdy and well-made.

Great ProductStrong and easy to assemble. I needed a tall printer stand and already had a shelf so I ordered more shelves and poles. However, the order did not include assembly instructions. If I didn't already have these components I might have been a bit mystified on how to assemble them.

Versatile!I've been happy with the InterMetro purchases I've made so far. I purchased a single shelf to add to a set (my 4th) when I needed to add one more. These hold far more than the plastic things from home improvement stores (and the shelves don't sag). When they are on sale next, I plan to get 1 more set.

Excellent solution and sturdy constructionWe were having a difficult time finding a tall rolling cart to fit into our odd shaping closet. I decided to try Container Store's help. They sent me exactly what I needed. I ordered online and picked up at the store. The Metro was extremely easy to put together. I had it together with 4 shelves and wheels in 15 minutes. The black color looks very nice.

High End ResultsWe purchased 3 shelves and 4 metro casters. Once assembled, we triple folded a piece of thick, slip resistant mat (available in the kitchen section) on the top shelf. My Boos Block fit perfectly on top! Add some baskets and storage containers, and VOILA! My butcher block cart is an exact replica of very pricey high end carts available at gourmet cooking stores. Total cost, including Boos Block and extras, approximately $250. Cost of pricey high end cart, approximately $850!

Better than boxed shelving from the big box storesA much better product than what I've purchased in the past from large chain home improvement stores. I was able to buy as many shelves as I needed for the project. The hooks are extremely useful in adding storage options without taking up shelf space.
I also like the brushed silver finish which made for a better look in my son's room and matched his other furniture.

Best general storage option I've ever foundWe started with one setup of InterMetro shelves in our kitchen and have since expanded to a tool shelving system, a smaller one in the bathroom, and will probably add more in the future!
Disassembled the pieces are light enough and maneuverable enough to get almost anywhere, and once assembled they're extremely sturdy and useful.
Highly recommended!

Exactly what I needed!I purchased these shelves to fit into a specific area in my closet. I was able to buy the shelves at the correct height and width, so that they fit perfectly. Excellent ProductBought two of these wire shelves and 4 wheels to construct a cart for our 65" flat screen TV. It is very sturdy and easy to fasten the feet onto the wires. This is our second cart for our second TV. The other cart holds a 42" flat screen TV. Makes it mobile and the lower shelf holds additional electronics. Black color makes it blend into the décor. Worth the money.

What is the height of a single shelf? E.g. 14" x 36" x what?

The shelf is 1-1/4" deep, including horizontal rods at both top & bottom of zigzag shelf edges & wires at a shelf top. Rods are thicker than shelf wire & extend above the top surface. Large, heavy, or inflexible items dragged off a shelf (not lifted) often means moving over a slightly higher rod. So rods should be considered in planning shelf placement. Also, shelf spacing must align with clearly marked notches on poles. Plastic clips snap into notches to make shelves stay put. There are so many notches, users can usually place shelves as they please.

Is it possible to combine shelf sizes when configuring a system?
I'm designing a unit for my laundry room and I would like to include a long- hanging area as well as 24" and 48" shelves within the 48" structure.

you need the steel poles to slide each shelf onto but different sizes wouldn't work with one unit unless you buy 2 additional shelving poles for the longer shelves to interlock to so your unit would have 6 poles instead of 4 and the longer shelves would be at different levels because of the interlocking method

Yes you can get the inter metro storage baskets and attach to each shelf and it would give additional expanded storage room and they hold a lot and can be moved around if need be

When calculating maximum box size for the shelves, how much space should I subtract from the listed dimensions to allow for the posts taking up space?
I have a narrow alcove that will fit one of these 36" shelves exactly. I am storing boxes on the shelf. The shelf has posts that are inset into the quoted dimensions. What is the diameter of one of these posts? I want to calculate the largest size box I could store on one shelf.

The posts don't take up any room as they are on the inside of shelving system as the shelves each slide into the posts and are adjustable for different size boxes, so dimensions given are correct and take up no additional space!
