Bathroom towel storageInstallation ok with a few issues. Biggest problem is that this shelf is very soft. I picked up at store and stored on a bed until we were ready to put it up. One corner is crushed in. Didnt think to check when i picked it up. Be very careful. No tapping with any tool.
Looks like i expected, storing towels so dont expect to have any issue with weight

Poorly DesignedWhile the product is made from fairly good materials, the design is flawed. After I installed the 24 inch shelf with the provided drywall anchors, the shelf would not stay in place and kept sagging forward. I tried some other heavier rated anchors which seemed to work at first, but with a few books on the shelf and sitting overnight, it did the same thing. Basically, there isn't enough vertical support to hold much of anything- barely the shelf itself. I had bought three of these and plan to return the remaining- patch the wall- repaint and give up.

Floating shelvesThey are indeed floating as they float away from the wall!
The 36" shelf came right out of the wall and the books
went everywhere.
I did not have that many books on the shelf either.
The screws that were sent are inadequate and our handyman had to go to Plan B to redo the shelf.
The shelves look good but that's where it ends--they
are useless for what I had in mind.

UselessI bought 2 of these shelves, installed one and returned the other. Installation of bracket was not a problem. The shelf just slides over 2 rods - no way to secure the shelf to the rods, so it sags away from the wall.

Great ... once installedOnce I got these up (6 3-footers, 2 2-footers) they are beautiful and strong. Perfect for books and large objects. I am glad I got them, and they were worth the installation effort.
One star off for installation pain. The hardware provided for wood studs and drywall installation were awful. The copper colored screws for studs , the heads snapped right off of several, so They couldn't hold the bar, and couldn't come out. and when they didn't snap off, they were about 1/4" too long-they just wouldn't screw all the way in.
The drywall mounts were worse - half of them twisted or snapped into useless pieces of plastic, many with pueces stuck in the holes so I coukdn't get them out. Others got stripped by the screwdriver when I tried to screw them in.
Solution: I went to the hardware store, and picked up a package of heavy duty wall anchors (rated for 50lbs each) that come with a drill bit, a kind I've used before and trust. I also used a few leftover ELFA drywall mounts that I had hanging around. They worked great, too. I also picked up some slightly shorter wood screws.
Once I switched to those, installation went much, much smoother!

Installation WarningGood solid shelf, but be careful before you drill any holes in your wall. The template for the 36 inch shelf is wrong! I had to create my own which made the project more difficult than it should have been. Also, the instructions for installing in drywall are missing some details... fortunately I've put up a few shelves like this in the past. I used a 3/16 bit to drill the pilot hole. Make sure you hammer the plastic anchors halfway in (just to where the spiral threads touch the surface of the wall) before starting to twist with the screwdriver.
I only have metal studs. Will I be able to mount these shelves? If they won't mount on metal studs is there some way to reinforce to make it work?

Mount in between the studs.
And use Elfa shelving wall anchors.

How much weight can these handle?
On a typical modern sheetrock wall, where these might be hung with anchors rather than in studs, how much weight would each shelf safely handle? ... is it sturdy/strong enough for a row of books, for example, without pulling away from the wall or sagging?

I am not sure but I have installed it with metal anchors and it is extremely firmly attached to the wall. My vision for purchasing it was to add much weight to it. it was more for the aesthetics of it all.

Do shelves have to be centered on studs?
I have studs available, but they are not necessarily positioned the way I want the shelves to be positioned. It is not clear from the pdf how the shelves attach to the mounting brackets. Are there exact places that are 16 inches on center, or can the shelves be shifted left to right (or placed on studs that are not 16 inches on center)? I only want to mount the shelves on studs as I want to be able to store more than 33 pounds on them.

Can these shelves be cut down a few inches?
I have a space that's less than 36" (maybe 30") and I wanted to cut them down. Will this damage their integrity? They will be mounted up against a wall on the cut end.
