Our InterMetro Shelving Tower has five adjustable, ventilated steel shelves, each supporting a generous amount of weight, and will safely hold home electronics, dishes, books - just about anything in any room of the house. We suggest adding a InterMetro Shelving Drawer or Storage Basket for even more storage possibilities. Place Metro Clear Shelf Liners on the shelves to prevent smaller items from slipping through. Perfection! This tower came to the rescue. Moving from a larger home to a smaller home can be stressful; especially if you are one who loves cooking and has more cooking equipment than the average cook! I was looking for something that had enough shelving and narrow enough to fit the one space I had in the new kitchen. It is sturdy, easy to put up and tall enough that I had plenty of room to put all I needed in easy reach. Thank you Container Store!

very sturdy shelvesI bought 2 of the 24 inch wide intermetro towers to use in my breakfast area. I can put my work stuff in baskets and file boxes and be organized without being cluttered. I love them. I ordered another shorter one to go in my laundry room. This is the best purchase I have made to get organized since the elfa door organizer.

No Regrets HereAfter months of measuring, reading the reviews, and going back and forth, I finally got it and I have to say no regrets. It is really a strong product. Now I have plenty of counter space. Should have gotten this sooner. The only thing I recommend is the shelf liner which I am planning to order today but overall a really great space saver. By the way, I got it in silver so it would blend in with my black and stainless steel appliances.

Great shelf!I saw this shelf on The Container Store's website and went into the store the next day to see if they had it there. Of course they did! The person on the floor was so incredibily helpful - Ianna in the White Plains, NY location. She got all the pieces together - very few peices - and gave me a couple of tips to assemble - the assembly was VERY easy - my husband & I did it in about 20 mins - but you do need 2 people. I also LOVE that there are shelf liners - I got this shelf for my pantry - and that it holds a good amount of weight!

pretty easy to assembleI didn't really need any tools to assemble this shelf unit, but it might have helped if i'd read the directions first :P because it took me longer than it should've and once i'd read them it went easy peasy. nice shelf. not rickety. holds a lot and fits nicely in my garage. no tools were required, but I did use a rubber mallet to tamp down the shelves onto the little positioners.

InterMetro Tower - possibilities!I originally purchased the tower as a free standing, rolling coat rack. I added wheels to the tower and a clothes bar for hanging coats. It now is being used in the kitchen pantry holding cast iron pots on lower shelving and lighter weight pans on upper shelving. This is a versatile tower. With the wheels it has been very convenient to move around, although the wheels develop flat areas that make it difficult, at first, to start rolling. The tower holds a fair amount of weight. A great addition. Who knows what future role the InterMetro Tower may have!

Sturdy storage towerWe have an office/guest bedroom that gets messy. We needed extra storage and had only a small footprint space available. The InterMetro Shelving Tower fit the space perfectly. It was very easy to assemble, I think it took 20 minutes. We only struggled with one of the interlocking parts. The tower is tall and it holds a lot. We like that the shelf height is adjustable. We use it to hold computer components, manuals and reams of paper. It doesn't sag or warp under the weight like some other storage units we've tried. It's great that it comes in several finish colors. Thinking of buying another for the kitchen pantry.

Organizing DreamI bought this tower for my son's dorm room. He and is room mate bunked their beds and this was the perfect solution for a "night stand". This gave each boy a place for their alarm clocks, bed lamps and personal items they needed next to the bed. I highly recommend this product.

Easy Assembly, Easy PurchaseThis is the best shelving unit, so much so, I went back and bought 4 more. I hate reading directions, putting things together, but this was easy. Also, I needed something for a smaller area and wanted taller shelving, the staff was able to just call in the back and add to the heighth and more shelves. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. Can't say it enough.

InterMetro saved my sanityI live in a townhouse with an extremely small kitchen -- little more than a Pullman style. I love to cook and over the years have collected lots of equipment. Problem -- no storage. We replaced some old shelves and cabinets with the InterMetro Tower and pantry unit and it gives me lots of storage and more space. I love it!! It looks great and I love my kitchen now. Thanks Container Store!

Great for my little pantry!I had a small closet/pantry area I wanted to shelve and I didn't want to do a full install. This worked really well! The only catch is that the individual slides don't always stay in place so you have to really finagle it so the shelves stay level. Other than that, it's perfect!

storage for a small roomSo I ordered this shelf storage system to hold a small tv, printer and accessories in a small guest room. It was exactly what I was looking for. I was able to pick it up from the store with no problem, though putting it together by myself was a bit of a bad slapstick comedy routine, so unless you want a few bruises from the poles falling over on you get someone to help you. Overall I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Perfect for my room makeoverMy son put this tower together for me and had no problems setting it up. I wanted an upright TV tower for a smaller TV. Delighted to have the option of white steel shelves as I plan to have other white furniture in the room to lighten it up. Very sturdy and plenty of room for various items. I plan to purchase the clear shelf liners when I find out which smaller items I want to put on the shelves. Very pleased with the purchase.

Strong and solidThis shelving unit is rock solid and also attractive. I was repeatedly told how "easy" this was to put together, but I found it rather tricky, until I figured out that I was placing the plastic brackets upside down.

Great small kitchen organizerThe 24" tower was easy to put together, holds alot of kitchen things like pots and pans, appliances (my heavy mixer, small microwave, crock pot, etc.) thus freeing up precious counter space and shelves that were not convenient to access these things and were stored in the "laundry" section of my kitchen. It looks clean and organized and in a small kitchen, that's essential. My kitchen appliances are stainless steel and black so I got the silver one that coordinates with everything. Since it is freestanding, you have the option of being able to move it around if you decide to change things around (which I am periodically doing). I love it!

made my closet useableI have veerrry small closets in my 90-yr-old house. Sideways, this fit into one end of the closet in the spare room and now I store linens and blankets, and cleaning supplies, which were all over the house. I love that I can adjust the shelves so easily. I put the lowest shelf about 1.5 feet off the floor so I can store the vacuum underneath. The highest shelf is at the very top, using previously wasted high-up space, so I can put essential-to-the-purpose-but-infrequently-needed items out of circulation. I know the instructions say not to put the lowest shelf so high, but this is 18" wide in a 19" closet, so there's no danger from instability.

Kitchen uncluttered, part 1As I cooked and baked more and more over time, my kitchen became inundated with cookware, bakeware, and pantry clutter. This shelf and the 48" wide one I bought two weeks later for the opposite side of the kitchen were perfect for the organization that was so sorely needed.

solid shelvesThese shelves are perfect for loading up and making things more organized. They are solid and strong. They were easy to put together. I have built similar shelves in past but these seem to be better made. I did the click and pick up purchase. The store personnel carried it out to the car and spent a few minutes doing a demo of how to put it together.
Can the InterMetro Tower be free-standing, or does it need to be fixed to the wall?
I understand that none of the InterMetro products should be climbed on or pulled on, but it is my understanding that they are made to be free-standing (hence the availability of casters). I just want to make sure. I am looking for any literature backing this up.
Thanks!

Does the store offer assembly for this item? And do you think it could hold a mini fridge on the bottom shelf and a microware on an upper shelf?
Asked by: mrwj616
Yes. I purchased this tall tower for my daughter's dorm room and it was perfect! I purchased the parts separately because I wanted 3 solid shelves instead of 4 wired shelves to accommodated refrigerator below. It also accommodated 4 baskets.

The shelves of our InterMetro Tower (or any other InterMetro solution) are infinitely adjustable in 1" increments. Place the shelves to suit your needs; adjust the shelves as your needs change and evolve.
You remember it. I remember it. And our kids are going to remember it: the college dorm room. And while some things change - my beloved Sting poster that was on my wall is now replaced by what? Maybe a lovely piece of art or montage of fun photos of friends and memories? Some things never change when it comes to dorm rooms - it's probably the smallest space you'll ever reside.
