Great for our ApartmentWe recently downsized, and don't have room in our small kitchen for a larger trash can. I searched and searched and finally found this gem. it is the perfect size -- it comes with trash can liners which you can purchase from simplehuman, but it also fits plastic grocery store bags. This is a MEDIUM size trash can with a lid. It seems as if everything else with a lid is large, or tiny bathroom size!
it hooks over the door but is barely visible from the outside. I love that I now have extra floor space in my cabinet. This is one of my favorite purchases for our apartment!

Perfect for campers too!I picked this up to see if it would work well in my pop up camper. Previously I had made do with a grocery bag hanging from a hook, and had looked at some clip on bag holders, but I really wanted something that would minimize any smells, as these other options were lidless.
This fits perfectly in my camper. I have a small access panel below the sink and this clips onto it with no issue. I can also move it to a higher flip down door if I need it closer to the top of the counter. I also have an integrated towel bar on my camper door, and it is the perfect size to hang from it as well. This way I can have it outside during the day and while cooking, and move it inside as needed.
The quality of the materials is top notch, and the design of the basket allows you to use grocery bags as well as the bags that are made for this trash can. Yes, you will see the sides of the grocery bag when it is closed, but that is a small price to pay when there is such a ready supply of free bags to use in our house.
Very satisfied with the purchase. Use a coupon to bring the price down a little, but well worth it.

Perfect Trash CanLove this trash can...exactly what I was looking for. Now...it clips on to the door, no hardware needed...a little sliver of chrome shows on the outside but not much...it's perfectly fine. As others here have said, it does not fit under the sink with the usual 2 cabinets below. So I have placed it inside a cabinet next to my under-the sink-cabinets. This is a wider door and the can fits just right. The can comes with a package of 10 (I think) liners/garbage bags. I find that these don't quite fit...tried stretching them but they don't quite make it...so I line the can with a smaller garbage bag and use the liners for actual garbage that gets removed. Love this product and highly recommend it.

Solved my problem!I live in an apartment and didn't want to drill into the cabinet. The hanger feature for this trashcan is the perfect solution. It fit perfectly on my cabinet, doesn't hit anything under the sink and looks nice. You can see a small metal part from where it hangs when the cabinet is closed, but it doesn't bother me. It would be nice if it was a little cheaper since it's for garbage, but it's the only of it's kind I could find, so I was willing to pay more than I wanted.

Unfortunately impracticalGood idea but doesn't quite "work." I purchased this trash can to put over the door of my under-sink kitchen cabinet. I have a double door under the sink and unfortunately, when you attach the bin to the inside of one of the doors, and open the door, the bin itself bangs into the other door. This product would only work smoothly on a cabinet with a single door I imagine. I returned it to the store.

So DisappointingI purchased two of these beautiful trash cans; one for the kitchen, the second for the master bath.
When I was installing the first one in the kitchen, I was so disappointed to discover it would not fit where I had planned; in the cabinet in front of the sink. The trash can is deep enough that it hits the kitchen sink. Same thing in the master bath.
I was able to find another location for the kitchen; however, there was no solution for the master bath so I will be returning one of these. {sigh}

Perfect size trash can for inside a cabinet!I purchased two of these in-cabinet trash cans a few weeks ago and I put one in my kitchen and the other on my bathroom. They work great in areas where you have limited floor space!

Cute out-of-the-way trashcanCute solution for a hidden trash can under our sink! Easy to install (just hang it over our shelving door) and easy to use when throwing away little bits and pieces of food prepped near the sink. Glad it has a lid to keep out odors, too. Small size encourages turnover so nothing stays too stinky. Need to manually lift the lid which is a super minor thing but would buy again.

Perfect fitWow, leave it to Simplehuman to come up with this. Absolutely perfect for those of us who don't need a huge trash can, or have no good spot for their larger stainless cans. With 2 cats and 1 dog to make floor space for food bowls, I had to put away my end of counter stainless can and have a can inside on my cabinet floor. This new in-cabinet trash can is out of sight and not taking floor space. Other plus is it uses the plastic market bags so you don't have to buy specialty bags-but they do make them.

Perfect SizeThis is a great size for daily trash. Thanks to recycling and composting I do not have a need for a large trash can each day. It keeps the smell down not having a large trash bag inside the house. This can is sealed well and the smell is not a problem at all. I am purchasing another to use on a different set of counter/cabinets in the kitchen for when the kitchen gets busy.

Just Makes Sense in NYC!!!This product exceeds my expectations. I was certain that it would be functional, but I did not expect that it would look good and be so sturdy. It also encourages better green living because it fits with most grocery store bags, so they won't be single use items. Ordering online and picking up in the store is The Container Store's best marketing tool. Once you get in the store, you don't want to leave. It is where utility meets whimsy.
In other words, I have a thick cabinet door - how wide can the cabinet door be (depth) ?

How wide does the door have to be to accommodate the trash can and clearance?

Total height (measuring from bottom of the can to top of the hanging bracket) is 14.3"; width is 11.7"; depth including the bracket (measuring how far the can protrudes when hanging on the cabinet face) is 8.7"; depth to the bracket is 7.7".
In short, a 12" wide x 16" high cabinet door should be adequate (not taking into account any obstructions inside the cabinet).

Does your cabinet need to be completely flat to hang on the cabinet door?
My cabinets are old. They have a 1x2 board across the whole cabinet to keep the vertical paneling of the cabinets together. The cabinet doors are not all one piece, so this board that holds the cabinet door together is potential problem. What do you think? I will attempt to send a pic.

It says it can be mounted to door - is this with screws?
I don't want the metal "hook" hanging over top of cupboard door. Prefer it to be inside cabinet but need to know how that would attach. Thank you.

Yes but I also screwed a board to the frame of my cabinet then screwed the trashcan to it, that way the screws did not go through the door and is very secure.
