I used to have papers all over the apartment waiting to be filed, because I hated filing papers. Not anymore, since I made it easier for myself! Here's how to make filing papers a lot simpler:
Think of all the places you put paper, and put them all together in one area of the apartment/house. For example, my file cabinets, scanner, shredder, magazine holders, recycle bin and scrapbook box are all in the same corner of the room. So when I have to file papers, it's one-stop shopping. I can't tell you how much time and mental energy it saves.
Put your file cabinets somewhere that's easy to access. In my case, when my cabinets were in the corner, I found it really tough to file things -- especially since I had to move my desk chair each time. When I moved them to an unobstructed area of the room, suddenly filing papers was no work at all.
I don't know about you, but I hate stuffing papers into already tight file cabinets. As a general rule, each of your file drawers should be no more than about 3/4 full. When it gets over that amount, it's time to throw things away or scan documents. If that doesn't do the trick, get a larger file cabinet.
