staying organized for camping trips

We love to camp, but figuring out what you need and packing it (and finding it once you get there) was a real hassle. So I bought two diaper bags (lots of interior and exterior pockets) and we organized all our camping gear (everything except the tent/sleeping stuff and chairs) into either the cooking/campfire bag (paper plates, sharp knife, salt/pepper, matches, aluminum foil, assorted ziploc bags, trash bags, marshmallow roasting forks, etc.) or the everything-else bag (candle lanterns, flashlights, army knife, battery-operated air pump, extra batteries, rope, cheap rain ponchos, etc.). We clean everything that needs it (sharp knife, mess kits, etc.) as soon as we get home and either refill the supplies (e.g., the ziploc bags and trashbags) or put a note in the bag about what we'll need to put in next time. Then the whole kit is ready to go whenever we want to camp ; we just have to grab coolers/food, our tents/sleeping stuff, and our folding chairs. And with everything well organized, our supplies are easy to locate and we're much less likely to have to make do without something we really need. Stressless preparation = more fun camping!
