simple functional and slim After months of online research, I purchased this shelving unit because it was unfussy in design and made of real wood. I was encouraged by the other positive reviews stating that it had survived multiple moves. I also needed to cram it in a space that was partially behind a shutter, so I was looking for something 12 inches deep or less. This fit the bill! It would score a five star rating from me except for two things: one was the wait and misinformation (in the beginning--they did correct this after I pushed) about arrival time. It seems they get waves of units shipped from overseas so when they are in waiting mode, it can be a while. Once in stock, the order came quickly. The other problem isn't really a problem if you assemble with another person, which I highly recommend. I attempted to do this myself, so it took few tries before I was able to level and balance and drill holes for the cross brace effectively. But it worked out fine in the end somehow. Also I had to fish around online for complete assembly instructions, but they were ultimately findable. I really love the look of my new shelves and will likely get more of these when I need more. I am a huge fan of 12 inch depth--the books don't get lost and are right at your fingertips. Very pleased. March 7, 2013

Fabulous Shelving These shelves have lasted nearly 10 years, and 4 different moves already. Very sturdy (other than a problem with the aluminum bracket with first unassemble, which I replaced with the crossbrace). Love that the shelves are easily reconfigured to meet the current needs for storage and display. They have not been difficult to assemble, and I'm no handy-person. Although, it's easier with two, especially the first time. Love the shelves, and love that they are so easy to build upon when more shelving is needed November 8, 2010

They grow with you Skandia shelves are great for any purpose, but I use mine primarily for books and small displayable collectibles. They're great because you can virtually customize the height of the shelves to exactly what you need. Their beautiful neutral finish will stand up to a lot of punishment and just wipe off. I wish in the future, Skandia would make drawers and glass fronts for the shelves to keep the dust off. But, they're still great just as they are. May 17, 2010

Best stuff ever We have an enormous number of books that we've collected over years. "Normal" bookshelves never worked for us consistently because we'd keep running out of room and then couldn't find a match to the old bookcases. Skandia was the answer. We can keep adding on and on and on. Also, since it's modular the same raw stuff will work over and over again. We've now had our Skandia in 4 different houses and it just keeps working.
