Looks Great Once Assembled I was drawn to the look and wanted something free standing rather than connected to the wall. I am pretty handy and assemble things myself the majority of the time. This shelving takes some time to assemble and you almost need two people. I didn't have anyone to help so holding things together in order to join them is tricky. When you first start assembling it tends to lean backward, but once you connect the vertical poles and shelves it stays in place. April 28, 2013

The cats approve I have an old house with plaster walls and big windows. I needed a storage solution in my mudroom/sunroom that could double as a place for my four young cats to lounge in front of a 36" wide window. I purchased a 5-foot freestanding unit (2- and 3-foot sections -- the 3' width fits perfectly in front of the window). I put a full-width shelf basket level with the base of the window (complete with home made cushion for the cats), a couple more shelves for cat and non-cat use, added a drawer and some hooks, and a full-width shelf at the very top for cat-free storage. Suddenly I have floor space again! I chose the Elfa system after a long search because of its sturdiness and stability. Even with all four cats on it at once, it hardly wiggles. January 27, 2012

Great solution--73" long!! I bought a slightly modified version of this to replace old shoe storage and increase coat hanging capacity in my garage. I was very disappointed to get it home and find out it was actually 73 inches wide when online it states it is 72 inches wide. Needless to say my space is 72.5 inches wide and it would not fit. The design people at the store helped me reconfigure the unit to a 5 foot solution and voila! It works great. I put the gliding shoe drawers on the two foot end. Awesome! January 6, 2012
