Driftwood & Platinum elfa Component Desk
Nice workspace, couple of issues
I ordered the Driftwood and Platinum Elfa desk for my 12 year old son so he would have a large and, I hope, clear workspace as he starts 7th grade this year. The desk is large enough to be functional yet blends nicely into the room without looking heavy or chunky.
The desk did not include any assembly instructions. It is not difficult to put together but it would have been helpful to know that I should have put in the drawer stop pins for the top drawer before hammering in the top rails. I hammered the whole drawer unit together before even finding the drawer stop pins and once those rails are hammered in, there is no way to put in the pins for the top drawer. I couldn't get the rails back out so I taped the pins in from underneath. I vaguely remember this problem from putting together Elfa closet components too. It wouldn't have been too hard to include something listing the best order for the assembly steps.
My other complaint is that the desk top does not actually attach to the drawer side; the desk legs are screwed on but it just sits on top of the drawer unit and it doesn't stay put very well. I'm not really worried about it falling off but it is sort of ridiculous that it doesn't attach *at all*. I may try putting something sticky or a small piece of foam where the desk top meets the drawer unit to increase the friction and, I hope, reduce the sliding around.
Finally, if you buy this desk, get the insert for the top drawer so there is a way to organize smaller items.
The desk isn't perfect but the problems are minor and the price was right. I do appreciate the clean and simple design that does not overwhelm a room.

Great for son's bedroom
It looks great and was easy to assemble. The only thing I would have different is pre-drilled starter holes for attaching the legs. Otherwise everything is great!

I bought this desk online using the Store Pick Up option. When I arrived to pick up the merchandise I saw the desk for the first time. Surprisingly, it's much more attractive in person. It didn't look cheap. Elfa really doesn't mess around. They have it covered to the nth degree. For a neat freak like myself - I couldn't be happier. This desk is a quick set up. What you see is what you get. Comes with the drawer liners and labels too. I got velcro to secure the desk top to the drawers works great.

Nice Desk - Poor Packaging
I purchased this desk last week to use as a home office. The surface area is great but I was very disappointed when I arrived home and began putting the desk together. The legs came in a plastic bag and had scuff marks all over them. The stoppers that are supposed to stop the drawer from hitting the wall come flying out if you push the drawer in too quickly. Most importantly the wood on the desk was warped in one of the corners and had a few minor marks because of how poorly the piece was packaged. The are also no pre-drilled holes to attach the legs....a power drill is a must. Overall I like this desk but am very disappointed with the way it is packaged. I recommend that anyone purchasing this desk, open the packaging to inspect the pieces before leaving the store.
