30-Pair Overdoor Shoe Organizer
Bought this on the recommendation of these reviews
And no regrets!
It's great for all the reasons stated by others before me. It's sturdy, it's a very efficient use of space, and it's affordable. (Discounted by ten bucks at the time of this review.)
I got this a few days before ripping all the fixtures out of my closet and installing a freestanding organizer with shelves and double rods. It was GREAT to have all of the shoes out of the way!
Having used it for a couple weeks now, I can tell you that it's great for a slob because it's almost less effort to put the shoes away at eye level in these open pockets than to leave them on the floor in front of the bed!
After my spring cleaning, I've got about half of the shoe pockets free to hold other things like scarves, baseball caps, winter knit caps, etc.
It's especially nice how everything is visible and easy to get to, not buried in the closet behind or under a bunch of other stuff.
The shoe rack is narrow enough to allow another organizer to go behind it. You could get the Container Store's purse hanger (black webbing with friction-lock hooks) or their flip-flop holder with the bright 1.5 inch grosgrain ribbon holding plastic hooks which hold the toes of your flip-flops. (You need to find another over-the-door hook to hold up the second of these products as it just comes with a metal D ring at the top and you have to find something to hang it on.)
This shoe rack comes with two sets of hooks to work with residential or industrial (dormitory) doors.

This attached so easily and the tie for the door knob secured it even more. There was an extra set of hanging hardware included. I guess if the weight of my shoes stresses out the first set, there is a backup.
Now all I have to do is rebuild my house to accommodate for the depth of the shoes.
If you do not have a foot of clearance behind your door, your door may be perpetually ajar.Since my door only has a few inches between the door frame and the corner, the door does not open fully with the shoes hanging on it. I considered the other side of the door, but don't want my shoes exposed to the open hallway.

It fits nicely on my door, easy to install (my door is just under 1.5 inches thick)
I wear 6.5-7 size shoes, so they mostly fit in the pockets without sticking out at all, makes it look real neat!
but not anything fancy so best to keep it somewhere out of site

Convenient, sturdy and doesn't shift on the door
My daughters and I have too many things (a constant source of complaints from my husband) so I'm always trying to get organized. I bought two of these over-the-door organizers and will be buying more because they are sturdy, versatile and convenient. You can keep shoes in them but in my house we put other things, like sweaters, pants and scarves in them. This storage solution is perfect because each compartment gets only one or two items, and the item is easy to see, and you don't forget that you own it, so you can wear it from time to time, as opposed to finding it on the bottom of your closet 12 months from now (this also tells you how often we clean, but oh well, we try).
