Reviews

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 47 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Utility Boards for My Laundry Room I've just added an Elfa shelf system in my laundry room and included two of these utility boards. The boards are easy to install, and all the accessories -- such as Trays, Boxes, Tool Holders, Accessory Hooks, and small Hooks (I have the Circle Board Hooks and Long Board Hooks) -- are a breeze to install. After reading the product description and a lot of the reviews, I assumed these boards were not magnetic, but they ARE! Big bonus for me as I can change out my kids' drawings, notes and reminders, and even the magnets themselves :). Anyway, I'm very happy with these boards and how organized my utility room now looks; I hope the pictures help. January 23, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by ELFA System Is The Best I have a older house with small closets and I need to use every inch of it. I tried three other closet organizer systems before I saw elfa system at my friends house. I used elfa in all my closets and in my garage. I like Elfa because ones you put it together it becomes one solid peace. It doesn't swing or move like other systems. Also there is way more available options that other systems offers. What's also important for me is that you could re-arrange it. I already re-arrange on of our closets from a guest closet to to men closet, and finally to kids closet. I recommend elfa to every one. Couple of my friends also got it after they saw my closets. August 28, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Yes, I can have tools in New York City As a guy living in a New York City apartment with limited space, taking out a specific tool used to mean unloading the whole closet. The elfa utility board allows for a wall mount and flexible options to hang my tools (hammer, power drill, hack saw, paint brushes etc). It's easy to install and stable even on drywall. You can mix and match different hook types until you fit whatever you need. It's also just a nice looking thing to hang on the wall. The Platinum color I guess fits with what my girlfriend has told me is my industrial chick decor. At the end of the day, I'd rather have all of my tools on my wall and ready for business than another poster I have to spend $200 to frame. August 27, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Solid shelf gripes Elfa accessories seem biased towards their wire shelves. I have the solid shelves, and therefore in order to use this board I am limited to the 24" and 25" shelves. Lame. Why isn't there an option for the 30" shelf? I would have loved to put this under all of my shelves, but I wasn't willing to sacrifice a combined 45" of shelf space (3 rows of 3) just to have three of these boards. Instead I only sacrificed 15" by having one 25" column of shelves and limiting myself to one board. Offer a 30" option and I will buy two more and rethink my star rating. Also, we need more hook options. None of the hooks fit the holes built into the handles of my rotary cutters, so I had to just lay them on one of the board trays. And some of the hooks are a royal pain to snap in, while others are easy as can be. March 2, 2015

Can these be used adjacent to an existing 16â¿¿ shelf, or do the standards need to be clear for the full height and width of the board?

For example, would I be able to fit 2' x15' boards in the gap at the center of my pictured workbench, or would my only option be the smaller boards that would fit in the areas where there are no adjacent shelves.

The hooks on the side of the board will need to be facing down. This is how you will be able to tell if the board is facing the correct direction. We have included a picture below for you to view the side of the board. You may also want to view our online installation videos, as we have a video dedicated to utility boards: http://www.containerstore.com/elfa/installation.htm

Answer:
The best way to remove the utility board is to use a flat head screw driver and wedge it in between the teeth of the board and the standard. While you press down on the handle of the screw driver, you will also need to push up on the bottom of the board with your other hand. This should disengage the board from the standard. If that does not work, please give us a call at 1-800-733-3532 and we can assist you over the phone.

Answer:
The container store answers to this question and to a similar plea further down the page require clarification. There is a small tab in the middle of each side of the board which locks the board into place. You need to free those tabs from their slots first. I used a small but strong flat head screwdriver to carefully pop each one free, trying not to bend them. Once these little locking tabs are free, you can move the board up (or the standard down) to free the large hooks. I had to use a mallet.

Answer:
There is a tab half way down that prevents removal. You have to bow the middle towards you and then slide up to release the board. If there is no weight on the shelves you can reach behind to bow the board, other wise use a non-marring flat item to pick behind the board.

Answer:
You'll need to place a large flathead screwdriver under the tab in the middle on the side. Twist the screwdriver to loosen the tab from the vertical standard then do the same to the middle tab on the other side. You should then be able to lift the board up and out to release the other tabs from the standards. You may want to place a soft cloth between the screwdriver and the standard to avoid nicking the standard.
