Rated 1 out of 5 by Let's Bugs In Gorgeous containers I bought two days ago but the morning after filling them with dried elbow pasta directly from the bag right after buying the pasta from the grocery store the night before, I woke up to find a bug crawling inside the glass curling in through and around my pasta. Thinking perhaps only that one jar had a gasket problem, I decided to test another of the same jar (I bought three) so I put a few beans of dried roasted edamame in an otherwise empty jar and put the lid on tight. I woke up this morning to find a bug sitting right next to the test beans inside and the lid was still on tight. So I threw out the bug-touched contents and now I put my dried food in a Ziploc, squeeze out all the air, and I put the filled Ziploc in the jar. With that method, I'm making it work, but if I had to do it again, I would buy The Container Store's hermetically sealed jars instead of these. March 27, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Disappointed I had a couple of these that I purchased a while back but hadn't used. After noting that I tended to forget to make use of crackers, etc. that I had opened and stored in the cupboard (outa sight, outa mind), I decided to purchase some more and use them for snacks and such with these attractive containers sitting out on a counter. In general a great idea, but unfortunately I discovered during a muggy Chicago summer that they are not as airtight as described and that crackers did get stale (losing a bit of crunch). As I had purchased the first ones over a year ago and the additional ones several months before I noted the problem, and then didn't act on it immediately, I assume that it is so late to attempt to return for something that did prove to be truly airtight. Bummer. Figure that they will be fine when humidity isn't a factor, but still disappointed that they weren't as promoted and also at myself for not being on the ball enough to discover in time to exchange. Still, they do look good! LOL January 15, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by you'll be glad you got these !! These canisters are thick & well made-pretty and take up less room, making for a neater cabinet-I ordered 12 of the 2 largest sizes( I have plenty of the 2 smaller sizes that I saved from all my circle e candles-circle e uses the exact same canisters from anchor hocking) I put adhesive chalkboard labels on them, used a sharpie permanent white paint pen ( comes off with alcohol ) VERY PLEASED...ordering these here is cheaper than ordering from anchor hocking because they don't have free shipping ! Rated 5 out of 5 by The best glass containers ever!!! I can't get enough of looking at my newly organized nuts and seeds. I have been looking for a very long time till I found these full glass stackable containers. Especially for such a good price. I love everything about them. June 15, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Utilitarian, but not perfect I only use these for grain (wheat, oat groats, etc) and other dry goods where excluding macro pests (mostly insects) is the main goal. The fit is not quite air-tight. Their selling point to me is their stack ability. Pretty much all other glass storage is non-stackable and thus not very space-efficient. February 27, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best purchase ever These containers are the best for keeping pasta, sugar, coffee fresh and dry. We live by the water and sometimes products get damp. I liked them so much I purchased many for my son and daughter who live in apartments, and the kitchen counter space is limited. The fact that they stack makes them ideal. Thank you, Container Store. Rated 1 out of 5 by Terrible Canisters These canisters are terrible! I was looking for a glass canister system that wood look nice in my kitchen to store rice, flour, etc. The lids are so loose, there's no way that they will keep anything fresh, and you can;t pick the canister up by the lid even when it's empty! I returned these, which was a hassle. I would not recommend these to ANYONE! December 24, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Classic canisters I have three sizes of these and keep my flour, granola, and sugar handy with them. Love the design and think they look classic and lovely on my counter. My only critique of them: the lid. It is definitely tight enough to keep contents fresh, but if you go to pick one up or move it and you do so by grabbing the top, it will come off suddenly. I was in a hurry one morning and spilled granola all over the place. Learned my lesson and now pick them up from middle. Sounds silly, but just an observation. May 7, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome for gifts!!! Saw this idea on Pinterest and knew I'd find the perfect container to recreate the idea at the Container store. Made this as a gift for the host for Easter dinner. Everyone loved it! April 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by I loved the weight of these storage canisters. They hold a lot ! Yet look stylish on my countertop. April 20, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Purchase Ever These containers are the best containers I've ever used. They are sturdy, have good seals, and are the perfect size for under my cabinet. Now I can see all of the goodies I need to store. April 18, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Storage Canisters I have purchased several sizes of these square glass canisters. They make storage an easy task. These canisters are made of glass which is healthy as glass does not leach chemicals into your food like plastic. The lids have a nice seal around them to provide a air tight seal when storing food. I will continue to buy pieces to add to my collection and most importantly these products are made in the USA. April 4, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by 54oz great product, just not as large as i thought it would be. March 11, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Another really cool container! These are perfect for a small kitchen with minimal counter space. March 1, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Versatile container I bought the tall glass container, which could be used for storing long spaghetti, to use as a flower vase for a young hospitalized woman. When she gets home, she can then use it to store whatever she likes. February 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by I got one of these for a friend. I was able to use a special glue to decorate the sides with a picture that she loves. The glass makes it easy to personalize. February 12, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Product Made Outstanding A long time ago I purchased these square glass containers and loved them. Found a newer version that is stackable and went with it. The original is great. The glass is strong and you can always see inside. They are square, taking up less counter space. And now they are stackable too! The base underneath and the lid on top have a raised edge all the way around. My older cannisters without this stack perfectly fine on top of new ones. The people who complain that you can't lift them by their lids have an unreasonable expectation and truly need a different product. Anchor-Hocking took a great product and made it even better! 5 STARS and don't change a thing! January 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful Storage These Anchor-Hocking square glass storage containers are heavy-duty, air-tight, but also sleek and up-to-date with their square shape and clear sides. They hold a lot and fit nicely on shelves. Food is easy to keep track of. The lid will slip off the jar if you pick them up by the lid, though. December 16, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect for Storage Better than any canister I have ever purchased. They are large enough to store spaghetti in also. August 9, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Form and function These canisters add an architectural element to my kitchen counter. They take up less actual space than my previous glass canisters, and because they are transparent and uniformly shaped, they also create visual space. I am very happy with the new look, and with the functionality of the seals on the lids to retain food quality. July 22, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful Storage I've been trying to minimize my counter clutter, but I also needed storage that my kids could use. These jars have solved both problems. The seal is amazing; they clean easily; and they provide storage that looks exceptional. I use the medium size for the kids gummy vitamins and the large size for nuts. My counter is happy and my kids remember their vitamins! April 17, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Stackable Containers are GREAT!! These stackable square containers are great because they have a good seal that keeps all your dry goods dry. It also works nicely in my pantry as I can clearly see what is inside. The added bonus is the shape of it allows me to stack them and save space too! Love these, I think I may be obsessed. March 18, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Glass Canisters The seal is very tight. This is what I was looking for. March 14, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by The perfect cannister These are the perfect canisters, contents are visible, attractive on countertop, go with any decor and easy to clean February 22, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by "once upon a time" I remember my mother storing leftovers et al in glass. Often, the "old fashioned" way is best since new techologies and materials may present all sorts of dangers. I'm so glad that glass storage is once again readily available at reasonable prices. January 28, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Organizer These have been so helpful to organize my baking/spice cabinet! No more bags of things falling over! The only issue is y 1 cup measure doesn't fit inside so I have to pour into the cup which I usually make a bit of a mess. November 19, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by NOT airtight! I love the look of these, but they are definitely NOT airtight. The "seal" if you can call it that, is made of hard plastic. Therefore they do not keep your food fresh or protect from bugs. November 18, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Stacking Canisters These are the best canisters ever. They are stackable, so their footprint on the counter is pretty small--and that is valuable real estate in my small kitchen. The seals are nice and tight, yet easy to open. Also, they come in different sizes so you can get just what you need. July 3, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Disappointing Purchase I had to return the canisters because they are NOT airtight, despite the listing on this website. When I took them home from the store, I tested their seal by filling one with water and turning it over. The water just poured out of the seams. I am glad I did not put my food in any of them -- it would have dried out. This is very disappointing because I loved the look and efficiency of the design. July 3, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love these containers! I bought these to store my flour and sugar... I was tired of the messy bags, the brown sugar hardening, etc. I chose these classic glass containers because my pantry shelves are not very tall, so I knew I might have to store them on my countertop. Well, I do, and they look terrific! The perfect addition to any kitchen. I love these! May 3, 2012

Answer:
There are 8 fluid ounces to a cup, so each canister has the following volume:

32 oz. = 4 cups
54 oz. = 6.75 cups
64 oz. = 8 cups
80 oz. = 10 cups

To store 4 lbs. of sugar, we'd recommend the 64 oz. canister.

In the picture, it appears as though the top part of the canister narrows a bit just below the lid. I'm wondering what the narrowest part of the opening is on each of the containers?
