Rated 5 out of 5 by Just what I was looking for! As a Kodak daughter, I have many framed photos, (not to mention photos in shoe boxes), but since I am downsizing from a house to a condo, it's not possible to keep the same number of framed photos on less wall space. After doing some research online, I found The Container Store had what I was looking for: ACID FREE and LIGNIN-FREE storage boxes for all my photos. Although the store was about 40 miles away and the boxes pricey, it was time & money well spent. I have a number of 4"x6", as well as 5"x7". This particular box will hold both the 4"x6", with some slack, and nicely fit the 5"x7" photos so that I can store both sizes in the same size box. For the larger photos, like the 8"x10" I purchased the 9"x12" flat box. So I hope this will help others who have both 4"x6" and 5"x7" photos. Although The Container Store was selling a photo product of storage cases, clear & pastel in color, online & onsite, these were plastic and labeled as "acid free". But any type of product that is made of plastic has oil in it. When I ask the sales person where these were manufactured, she said Texas, and that's where a lot of our oil comes from in the States. All plastic products have oil in them. So be aware. Make sure you get ACID FREE and LIGNIN-FREE storage boxes without oil in them. Do your research online about photo storage. Photos need to be kept out of light and dust free as well. That's what the archivists do. July 18, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Missing envelopes I love the box but the envelopes were not in my box. I have to take it back to the store which will require me to make a special trip. I don't live nearby so it is an inconvenience. February 24, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Picture Storage Purchase these after going thru the closet at my mom's after she past away. She had a lotof old pictures still in photo albums that were starting to cause pictures to fade. These will work out perfect to keep them in without further fading. May 30, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Really Nice Photo Box I really like this box! My mom got me a small fire proof safe (1.23 cu. ft.) for christmas. I have been looking for an archival photo box that would hold all my grandmothers photos, and fit in the safe. This one fits the bill perfectly. It even comes with 12 photo sleeves! (those are like $7. a pack, so really it's like the box is only $10.) Also this box is really well made. It is made with very thick board and nice metal rivets on the outside corners. March 18, 2013

Certified acid-free?

Have the containers like this one been certified as try acid-free? Has anything passed the PAT test (Photographic Activity Test) developed by the Image Permanence Institute? I am leery if purchasing so-called acid-free items without that certification, as many who claim to make such products lie or bend the truth on the matter.
