Bamboo Compost Pail
superb kitchen counter compost bin
I'm surprised to read all the reviews about the splitting bin. I just checked mine to see if maybe I just haven't noticed a defect, but it looks as good as the day I bought it. I've had mine for years and have no problems with the quality. It's nice to look at on the kitchen counter and no one has guessed it's for composting. I highly recommend it and am very pleased. Every so often, I clean the plastic interior by filling it with a water/clorox solution and leaving it in the sink overnight. The interior bin has its own handle, making it easy to remove without touching its contents. I couldn't be happier.

Looks awesome - but bamboo splits
I love the looks of the pail and enjoyed it on my kitchen counter. But it split vertically. We glued and clamped it, and it lasted another year or so. The inner bucket handle was flimsy and not up to the task. Imagine the mess of a full container, included wet coffee grounds hitting the floor! The coffee hit my 10 foot ceiling. Thus the handle was useless. Despite it's lack of use, it recently broke completely (the handle). And with the split wood, the lid no longer fit - so out it went.

I love that the pail is made of bamboo and ecologically sound. I love the way the pail looks. I am even willing to pay for the filters, but like others my pail started splitting. It is over two years old so I have avoided the frustration of having it come apart immediately after purchasing it. It retrospect, I should have gotten a compost pail that has a longer life and just keep it under the sink. Fortunately, it is recyclable. It's next life after a little wood glue will be as a planter.

beautiful junk; split after six months.
Received as a housewarming gift from my sister in July. Put it beside the kitchen sink. In January, it split, right up the side, near one of the points where the handle attaches. (I happened to be standing right there and heard it -- sounded like tearing paper.)
DO NOT BUY.

I really wanted something that was both functional and attractive and this fit the bill for a couple weeks. Once a bit of water came in contact with the bamboo casing, the glue basically dissolved and the pail started to split apart. I continued to use it and turned the split part toward the wall but it happened repeatedly until the pail was useless.

Pleasing to the eye, but...
Even after reading some negative reviews on this product's shoddy craftsman's work, I decided to buy it. It's a great looking compost pail!!
Unfortunately, after about a week or two later the bamboo completely fell apart, and I decided to return it for a "less eye-pleasing" compost box that won't fall apart of me.

Great product, does what it should, looks good.
This is so much nicer looking than most compost pails. Rather than standing out like an eyesore on the counter, it blends in nicely. People hardly notice it and if they do they comment on how nice it looks. I love that the inner container can be removed to take things out to the bin and to put it in the dishwasher. I don't really understand some of the complaints other reviewers had about the quality of the bamboo. It looks very nice and seems solidly put together. Friends who compost who use a stainless steel pail have complained a lot about fingerprints and other smudges and drips being difficult to clean off, and they say theirs always looks dirty no matter how hard they try. This pail is definitely more forgiving than that. I'd highly recommend it to anyone concerned about the aesthetics of their compost supplies.

I have only had this for a few weeks, but have been happy with it. There is not a smell and looks attractive in my kitchen. It is a good size for a family.

Great little composter!
This is functional and looks good on the countertop. I like that the bucket inside comes out easily & is dishwasher-safe, too. The charcoal filters are a bit difficult to find tho.
